Try using some grease based makeup and some stipple sponges. Take a brown color, stipple it on your face (not too much, as this will be a contrast color), set it with setting powder, when it wont smudge repeat the process with a blond color and be a bit more heavy handed. Set that and you should be good to go.
Do this AFTER all your other makeup is put on, as you wont be able to do any contorting/shadow/whatever after you put the stubble on.

At least, that is what I believe the method my friends used is. I was only told it once, but it's something that's super easy to try out.

This method is nice for anyone who might be allergic or sensitive to spirit gum related adhesive and what not.
