Depends on how lucky you are. You won't always get recognition but (in my opinion) it's what makes it all the more special when someone does recognise the character
Got a high five and had a good conversation with a random person at a con when I was cosplaying Lorelai's Suikoden II outfit.
But again, it depends on luck, Yuber has remained unrecognised (though this could partly be due to Europe not getting Suikoden III so his outfit from that may be less recognisable over here.
