As long as your costume is age-appropriate (just don't go with anything revealing), then you'll be fine -- there isn't a starting age for a cosplayer, and I always love seeing when younger kids cosplay! (And you'll get a head start on experience.) I did my first costume at 12, which was basically an overdressed clown, and all my parents had to say about it was that they thought it was odd. (Hell, they still do and I'm almost 17!)
