What worked for me was to use a website that tells you how much you should be eating, and you can input your food and it tells you all the calories and such... There are a number of sites like this to choose from, some of them also have phone apps as well. This way I know if I am getting a proper amount of calories/protein/etc... If I am too hungry but I have eaten enough calories, I try to snack on lower calorie foods like air popped popcorn, veggies, or clear soups.
