I'm going to be doing a costume that requires a large amount of freshly-spattered blood all over it. I'm looking for something that will remain shiny and wet-looking, without being sticky or tacky. The catch is that I can't use pre-made fake blood products, because this is going to be for Homestuck, and none of the blood will be red!

I saw an old thread that mentioned mixing "gloss varnish" with paint, but I was hoping to get a little more specific tips, because I don't have a whole lot of money to throw at trail-and-error attempts. Has anyone done this before? What did you use? Acrylic paint? What kind of varnish?
