The problem is you keep mentioning the merits of the photograph, but what are those exactly? Composition/lighting/focus? Even if you knew what they were judging on, it's still heavily subjective. So whose to say that one person's composition is better than another's? Then on top of that you have post editing. The AX contest doesn't mention anything about post-processing. So how does that factor into the equation? My point is, I don't think knowing any of this information is going to make much of a difference. You'll just have to submit and wait and see if your work is selected.
