Hairdresser

Hey anyone ever try bringing in a wig and picture of your anime character to a hairdresser? If so how'd it work out? I'm thinking of trying it, might be fun!

Or if that doesn't work any suggestions for Shizumas hair?

Silver haired girl...

Two questions: Is the wig human hair or synthetic? And are you wanting them to just cut it or style it, too?

They may be able to do a little, but be sure to ask, and keep asking, if they are familiar enough and comfortable working with wigs. Make sure they have experience. Even a human hair wig has different properties than the hair on your head (the wefting can make some styles or cuts difficult), and synthetic wigs need a completely different type of styling: a lot of the chemicals used to process real hair would destroy a synthetic wig.

Now then, my horror story:
While I love wig styling, I'm not very comfortable with the actual cutting, aside from bangs. I took my wig to my hairdresser, and she told me it would be okay, though I started to get doubtful. In the end, it looked awful. I ended up having to re-cut it myself (though into a different style, it was too late for the one that I had originally wanted). She also charged about twice as much due to the "difficulty," but she also seemed to rush through it and cut sloppier than normal. I was extremely pissed, and won't trust anyone to touch one of my wigs again.

If you don't want to do it yourself, I'd suggest finding someone on this site, rather than an actual hair stylist. As backwards as that sounds, most of the wig stylists here have a better idea of how wigs work as opposed to hair.

I personally wouldn't let anyone come near my wig EVER! And if I would... I'd keep around! To point out things that go wrong or something, that person would need to ask every time he of she'd cut something..

No I'll stick to doing them myselves, so I can't blame anyone but myself if things go wrong!

I actually have brought a wig (synthetic) and some pictures to a hair dresser and had it cut and styled, but only because I knew the woman personally and she knew how important it was that it was done right and not rushed. I did have to go home and fix the styling a little, because my hair dresser, in an attempt to make it look more "normal", didn't style the bangs how I imagined, but no big deal.

I would advise you that wig cuts can be just as bad as normal hair cuts, and that what you wanted is not even close what you get.

As someone who's worked at a salon (as a receptionist, not stylist) I would not recommend taking a wig to any old hairdresser unless it was for a very simple 'normal' looking cut. And definitely not for the type of hair in your ref. pic as longer wigs tend to be more difficult to style and cut especially when then have curl to them. As someone who's natural hair is rather long and curly i can attest to the fact that many have trouble with styling this type of hair just in general. Also, as previously mentioned, most have absolutely no experience with synthetic wigs, which can be dangerous if they try cutting and styling the wig as if it were normal hair.

If you really want to go the hairdresser route you should find a stylist who specializes in wigs. Yes, they are out there. Typically they'd advertise themselves as specializing in working with cancer patients. But again, keep in mind that even though they may be good with wigs, their experience is doing 'normal' styles and they might have some difficulty with a more anime look.
