Well I followed your directions, and let the dye sit for about a week, applied it,and while it did dye it darker to an extent, it didn't come out as green when I applied a Sharpie directly onto the hair.Maybe it'd work better if my wig's hair wasn't so dark.I'll just get a lighter colored wig next time, thank you for your help everybody.

Yay somebody revived this

Heres a wig that started white and got sharpie dyed with 3 different colors:

It took like a dream!

However, I was working on a blue Forever Young wig and that was disastrous x__x lesson learned, start with white!

Sharpie dye not sticking :Part 2

Well since I had a little bit of solution left AND I had some FW ink lying around,I decided to add 2 full squeezes of the stuff into the rest of the sharpie solution and sprayed it on the wig.To my surprise it actually stuck to the wig...it's a lighter shade but it stuck.

:: wiggles in :: Heya, I just thought I'd ask here since it seems the best place to ask.
I'm doing Hyuuga Hinata from Naruto, and I got the wig picked out, but being the type of cosplayer I am, I want it the exact color of her hair, which is a deep blueish purpleish blah.
So i'm going to get it and dye it with sharpies, so.. What would be the best color for me to start with? Would a dark/medium brown work better for her dark hair color moreso than a light blonde?
Thankfully it's a short wig, so anything I do to it will be easy... but, what way have you guys decided is the best? the one that doesn't rub off.. :: shudders :: and about how many sharpies would I need to do a whole wig? (sorry for so many questions!~)

A brown wig wont work.

Just start with a purple wig and use one sharpie. since her hair isnt long with one sharpie it can make it dark purple. Check phantomthief gallery. she made her "dark " wig a darker purple with one single sharpie. its pretty.

Ok then get a white wig and use two sharpies then.

Hmm.. I use 3 to 5 on all my wigs even though they are short, it helps you get a deeper concentration of color. You don't want it to look white-ish through the color.

You can indeed use a brown wig with colored sharpies, but you'll probably need to test swatches because the results can be unpredictable. This thing right here was a light brown (color 8 specifically) wig colored with lime green sharpie in the ancient hand method. An unorthodox combination, but it yielded the dark brown with green highlights color that I was after. Just make sure to rinse; I forgot to rinse that thing and I ended up with my pretty white shirt stained with lime! (Thank god for bleach pens.)

Honestly, for darker colors, starting with white = not a good idea. Get a swatch ring and have fun!
