I agree with Danzikumaru on what a skit is. If it wasn't performed at a con on the masquerade stage, it doesn't count to me.
Mentos parodies. Mentos parodies stopped being funny years ago. |

I'm a Zelda fan, so I've seen waaay too many skits with that one song people say was by SOAD (you know, "LINK, he come to town! He come to SAVE the princess Zelda!).
I can't remember who it was really by, or what the title of it is, but I've seen it enough times to make poor Link shoot himself. D: @Twilight: I didn't know people still did Mentos parodies. How sad. D: |

If I never, ever see a 'Dating game' themed skit again, it will be too soon. Seriously. I can actually say without exaggerating that they have had at least one (sometimes more) at every con I've been to for the last six years. That is not right...

Actually, I disagree. If you actually put effort into planning out a musical skit, it can be very entertaining; there's a reason Broadway has been pumping out musicals for 50+ years; people like them.
Agreed, badly planned musical skits are bad, but so is any badly planned skit. There was a GENIUS Evangelion skit at Otakon last year that used a re-written "Favorite Things" (The Sound of Music). And I myself am planning a Petshop of Horrors musical skit to some stuff from "Little Shop of Horrors", complete with re-written lyrics. I think it's just that if the effort isn't there (pre-recording, actually putting thought into how the skit/lyrics are re/written.) the audience can tell. It goes for any sort of skit. But the musical of the moment things (Like Avenue Q) are irritating, probably because they get so much attention and become such a viral thing so fast. I'm a HUGE fan of Wicked, but have seen music from it being used properly for a skit ONCE. Out of 544654654 people doing "Popular", only ONE skit I've ever seen has used it well, because they made it their own. |

One thing I see a lot is cosplayers who come up with weak costumes, and try to perform stand up... sometimes it works, but most of the time it doesn't.

I actually think that that Internet Porn skit from AX '06 was pretty hilarious. ^_^;;
But yeah, Avenue Q skits are way overdone. Like this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bDsba9CspBA

My $.02. ^^
I think that if you are doing a skit that has been done before a good amount of times, you should take it up a knotch. Make it your own. example: For all the not so great yaoi skits I've seen, I saw one at Anime USA 2005 that was just down right entertaining (and I'm not a yaoi fan at all). It's all about HOW you present it. Side note: My buds and I did a Link skit at Katsu 2006. None of us have seen anyone use the song (at least at Katsu, Otakon, AMA, A-Next, AUSA), but figured people MUST have used it before. We made sure it was entertaining, well rehearsed, and... had a chicken. ^^ This is the skit: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9nlObQgGq3Y It's not OMG WOW PERFECT, but it's entertaining (at least for the audience??).
