Hi everone! Since Vocaloid is getting more and more popular in the U.S, I thought there should be a thread where vocaloid cosplayers can disscuss about their projects :3

in case some of you dont know about vocaloid, and are intrested in it, Vocalois& Vocaloid 2 is the computer software where, you can have these singers "Vocaloids" with distinct voices sing it out and song you feed to them! as well as composing some original songs by adding melodys and lyrics. here's more of an overview: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vocaloid

I curious though, if these are official vocaloids or just fan characters.

I plan to cosplay the pink haired vocaloid Tonorinae Sai, and im wondering if some of you guys might help ^^


for the wig, should I get a generic pink (cotton candy pink) or a specific shade? if the second option, which would be more accurate?:
ROSE PINK or MILKSHAKE PINK

mochi-chan, judging from the pictures both rose & milkshake pink are too dark. You'd want something lighter, I think.

I'm cosplaying the ever popular Hatsune Miku next AN, actually. I'm getting little daunted by the thoughts of her wig, but I'll figure out a way to handle it. XD Somehow~

Does anyone have any close-up images of the details on Miku's skirt? Some reference art has it, and others does not!
Is she officially supposed to have those little details on there?

What is your opinion, would you add them or not?

she doesn't offiically have to have it, i've seen some good cosplays without those details although they do help!

i had a hard time finding close-ups of these details, too, untilllllllllll i found fan-made music videos of her in 3D ;3 one of my favorites [for details] is this:

but you can also just repeat the same pattern on the pleats like in this video:

the only question is HOW PEOPLE DO THIS D: screen printing, painting, what is it? :s

I've never heard of Tonorinae Sai as an official vocaloid
so she is more thenlikely fan made like xstjx said.

But rose pink and milkshake pink look to dark
and cotton candy pink seem to light
but..i think
there's a dull pink sold by
cog_marc or something on ebay.
I'm not sure how it looks in person but it's darker then cotton candy
but lighter then the other two.
For the headset
it should be easy
all you have to do
is get, ( i would use pleather or something but idk)
and put wiring in it so it holds its shape. ^^

but i'm debating on three different types of wigs
one of them is the short wig
plus the clip on ponytails
and the other two
are just one wig put into pony tails.
and then one of them is the actual length
(which will probably kill me)
and one is a bit shorter..
and the price varies..>.<
Plus shipping from japan..x.x

are you talking about the little flashy things and name tags?

Thank you VERY much for that first link! Very helpful indeed, especially how it shows the designs "in action". Now i'm really inspired to incorporate glowing effects

As for how to do it, from what i've gathered, screen printing would be a nice idea. I think that would produce some nice, clean lines.
You could use metallic paints and add sparkles into it maybe?

Since the shapes are so basic on her skirt, maybe it would be possible to find some plan ol' stencils instead of screen printing. You could even make your own stencils from a sheet of plastic. Hmmm, I might look into that.

I've also seen people sew the individual pieces of metallic colour fabric onto the skirt with nice results as well

Or heck, maybe even reflective tape could work! I don't know how easy it is to get the correct colours though, and how it would look sitting on the skirt and not being lit up by a flash.

After seeing that video, I am now wondering how to pull off those circle/dial things on the right hand side of the skirt.

I'm thinking the bottom three dials could be screen printed in the same manner as the rectangle details on the skirt, but the top three, it would be cool to have them "pop out" of the skirt somehow.

I was talking about the coloured square/rectangle shapes on her skirt that you see sometimes.
I have decided that they should be included, because the image of Miku on the Vocaloid2 box shows the details on the skirt.

I'm actually planning on getting a wig and stubbing the pigtails since Miku's pigtails are like WHOA LONG. I think finding wigs that long would be super hard, especially the right colour.

Have you considered Electroluminescent tape and/or wire? Its super thin, light, doesn't get hot, and can be run by battery.

I have looked at screen printing/painting and am really skeptical of it (my skirt is made of pleather, and from what i've gathered, paint of any kind, even the kind made specifically for leather, is always "tacky", no matter how long it dries for).

Heat n' Bonding pieces of metallic fabric seems like a good idea to me so far.

i'm probably gonna use stick-on rhinestones ,i just saw a recent japanese cosplay use it looked AMAZING, not to mention one of the best/most detailed miku costumes i've seen yet :3

Shipping shouldn't be that much, cosplaywig's located in like Hong Kong and it's only 9.99 to the US flat rate so Japan shouldn't be like super expensive. D:

I'm really short (like 5') so an Amanda-length wig is pretty much the right length for me. >< I was thinking of getting a cosworx Ivy, though, and stubbing the pigtails since they're so wtf_HUGE. I'll def. be needing a ton of extensions, i can tell. XD

I thought about trying rhinestones as well. They would look nice and twinkly which would be good to help mimic the fact that they are supposed to light up.

Ooo, care to share photos of that cosplayer? Inspiration is always good ^_^
