Question about Lolita dresses etc.

Hello, I'm kinda new to this whole lolita thing, but I've been steadily collecting things for a while now. But I was just wondering, do a lot of lolitas make their own stuff? Or buy it? Does it matter where you buy it from? I sew a lot, and I thought of making my own dress before and this was annoying me >.< Is it just as acceptable to wear something you made, as something you buy from a well known brand? Sorry if this question seems a little silly, but I was just wondering. Thank you!

making your own seems fine. i think it would be cheaper than some brand dresses. plus you can make something unique!

It's totally fine to make your own stuff, quite a few lolitas do it. As long as it's good quality, you'll be fine.

I've made my own lolita dress before. It makes your dresses interesting and unique! I've never had anyone give me a problem about home made lolita stuff. I've even had someone ask how I made my matching hat. Most lolitas know how pricey it can be to purchase a dress and it's becoming much more acceptable to make one. VERY few people should give you crap about it. And if they do, they need to find better things to do with their time.

Thanks! It made me really happy to get your responses! I think I'll go ahead and finish making my dress now ^-^ lol. Oh, does anyone know a good place to find a petty coat? Or should I just make my own? Thanks again!

I posted a couple good places and tutorials for petticoats over here: http://www.cosplay.com/showthread.php?t=155971

As far as make/buy, it's up to you. I hate sewing tulle, but that's just me.
