Aliens Colonial Marines

hey guys, any fellow USCM or UKCM here on cosplay.com?

I'm currently putting together a USCM marine for Otakon and Dragocon this summer, anyone else planning anything aliens related?

Still thinking on making a Soviet Colonial Marine.

Not canon, but it would be a fun spinoff and would be a fun project.

However, since the movie is cold war era. I would suspect that in some way, the Soviet Union exists, and to have a spin off of a Soviet variant similar to USCM would just be awesome and unique.

I looked into Mobile Infantry and it'll cost you at least twice as much as USCM would.

that depends really,
you coooould make the actual armor bits for Sst yourself,
the way ive seen it done was:
get teh basic design/pattern of the armor, and basically unroll or flatten it out,
make wooden "masters" based on this pattern
vaccuform those to give you a mold,

use rubber in the mold to make the armor,
and roll/attach/whatever into the correct shape.

still a littttle pricy, but noowhere near the cost of a screen used suit

from the person who made it this way:

Quote:
The armor was cast using Smooth-On VytaFlex 40 with black pigment added
the VytaFlex40 is thin like water and had to be thickened so I could brush it into the molds
the armor is backed with a foam sheet which had to be glued in with a smooth on adhesive
made for fixing torn urethane rubber molds because the adhesive that was on the foam sheet
would not stick to the VytaFlex40.
I did use the orginal polyurethane rubber and foam that was used to make the movie suits
but that material was very hard to use because it kicked to fast once it was mixed.
not mine not mine not mine, heres a few pics he posted:
wooden master, neck, front and back:

heres his vaccuformed molds:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v5...7/100_1662.jpg

all credit for this method, and those pics, goes to spartan648 over on teh 405th boards

edit1: also, not an colonial marine costumer YET, but eventually i hope to own a set of spats armor, its just the money i need first X_X

friend of mine linked me to that post on the 405th, but really with MI my problem wasn't going to be the armor itself but the correct uniform, they go for almost $2000

and yeah I'm working oin getting some Spat armor, got a helmet from him, and my god it's worth every penny, I love it.

Making armor is not as easy as many think.

It takes quite a few molds and pulls before you make a decent product that is worth wearing.

From my recollection, it was heavily alluded to in the old Colonial Marines tech manual that Russia had been defeated and annexed by China.

Most of the engagements the USCM fought were against Chinese soldiers, as china was the only other superpower with the ability to project on a galactic scale.

Its still an awesome idea though.

Well if I wasn't spending my money on my Genome Soldier and supporting some of your USMC costume I would probably rock one.

Wow, wish I could get hold of a set of molds like that, or even just measured diagrams. What about using Wonderflex?

I believe its still out of print, and it was made before ALIEN Resurrection.

There's some nice stories in there too. Like how the smart gunners got a bit spooked by the accuracy of the auto-targeting on their guns.

They broke up an ambush, and then they checked the bodies, they found that there were only single bullet wounds, dead center of mass on each target. Apparently 4 or 5 rounds had passed through the same exact wound, crazy clean.

After that they turned off the auto-targeting and sprayed a bit more.
