Auron - Final Fantasy X

My friend made this costume a few years ago, And I've been wearing/repairing it since 2006.

I'd like to do a bit more work on the belt, as it's falling apart and doesn't look as nice as I think it should. Also, I would like to hear some opinions on the bracer. Is it bad that it's not exactly like the original, or was creativity good here? The boots could use some work as well I think.

This is my first time actually asking for a critique on it, so I want to hear as many suggestions/comments as possible.

Here's a few links:

And of course reference pics:

If you'd like to look at more of the pics I didn't list, feel free to do so.

Also, if there's anything you'd like a better picture of, I can take one easily.

Thanks in advance!

I'm not gonna critique since I'm just too tired to compare but I gotta say from the standpoint of someone who didn't bother to click a ref pic and hasn't played FFX in about two years... your Auron costume is pretty damn great.

OMG, your one of the best Aurons out there, you have pretty much nailed it, but I want to say that I noticed that your ribbons are a little bit to shiney and a little bit to light in color. The ribbon or strip of cloth going down the front of Auron's robe/jacket is more of a navy color, thats really the only thing Ive noticed with your costume, you pretty much got everything else

=D

The only thing that isn't really good besides the blue being too shiny is the little armor pieces on your belt and your shoulderpad. Other than those it really looks great! I wouldn't say the stuff about the armor if I didn't think that your costume was really close to being perfect. I think that those are the only things holding this back from being one of the best Auron cosplays I've seen.

Thanks for your replies! I hadn't thought about the blue stripe being off, thank you for pointing that out! It's too late to fix it for this year's Katsu, but I'll definitely get that changed.

As for the shiny bits that Valorman pointed out, What would you guys suggest I do about them?

fantastic Auron. if i may make a small comment. I think the thicker and tad longer head hair would be a nice touch as well. But you've already done a great job on it. Well done!

The blue stripe is a little bright, but I'm more concerned about the fact that it seems to be coming off, or bubbling. Is it attached with iron-on interfacing or Wonder Under or something similar? If so, it looks like it could benefit from a careful re-ironing to re-set the adhesive.

Your coat should be a little longer; Auron's overlaps the top of his boots slightly.

I think the colors in general are too bright and vivid and new-looking. Auron's a ronin, he's been around. His clothes have a little more of a weathered look to them.

I think the only thing that bothers me is the hair, and how it looks like you're forcing yourself to squint in photos.

Other than that, your costume is amazing. Awesome sword, btw.

EDIT: Btw, when I mentioned the hair... I meant the fact that yours looks curly and untouched besides the grey hair in the front. You could try growing out your hair a little, and gelling it or something. I'm only nitpicking, though.

really really good Auron, but of course you know that.

I still have some crit for you though:
I really think the blue straps along the opening of the coat shouldn't be of a shiny material. The shoulderpiece needs needs to be stiffer and little thicker. Back it up with foam or even just cardboard for stiffness and drape it in leather/pleather.
hair needs straightening out a little, and better dying if you've got the time/funds.
The belt should sit a little higher, as should the saké-bottle. You should pull the opening on the front below the belt a little further away from each other or push one of your legs out to make it look less like a bathrobe (this is a problem with most auron cosplays) - it's not very flattering. Remember to stand a little more "proud", pull your chest forth and your arms back a little. It will do a lot more for the costume than you think.
Also, the blue bits on the sides of the belt need to be snugger and more visible on the front.

Hope you listen and think about this, 'cus I think you could be one of the best auron's out there if you just buffed your cos a little more.

Thanks a ton for all of the comments! I'll take more if people want to give them, but I have a good idea of what needs to be worked on now. I'm actually considering starting from scratch and making an Auron that is 100% my own creation, so every little bit of advice helps.

I like it. As has been said before, the colours are a bit bright, but it depends what kind of look you're going for. Personally, I like making my colours a bit brighter.

From the pics, I dont like the look of the fabric on the red part, it doesnt look quite right for Auron, although I could be wrong, I cant quite see what fabric it is properly.

It looks to me like it might be broadcloth? It's very smooth and tightly woven. You can see in some of the AMVs that Auron's coat is heavier and has a visible weave to it-- might be a twill weave; I can't remember, but it does have a little texture.

If there is any way to get your hair straighter I think it would look more accurate.

You look great, but I agree that the hair should be a bit longer. Otherwise, spot on!
