Describe your Experience. Pros, Cons, Comments:
The under dress is about as long as I want it to be for the hoop skirt to fit under.
She's a really nice commissioner and keeps in contact very well.
The vines on the dress were really nice.
Smelled a little funky, like paint.
there are a lot of black and brown stains everywhere. Kinda the same color as the gold roses at the bottom of the under dress. (Really. It has to be paint.)
There are no roses on the bottom of garnets dress, just little crown things. i gave her a buttload of ref. pictures, none of which have roses. She also made the green vines along the dress into weird green flowers. I'm honestly confused.
the top, which is meant to sit around the bust and is strapless, is around my shoulders instead. I had to re-adjust the straps she put on the dress for ages and it's still rather high.
And The costume is so baggy! I know I gave the right measurements, I had four people do them for me. o.o;;
The under skirt sits around my hips instead of my waist and the top kinda.. sags at the back.
It's also completly unlined.
I asked her for non-shiney material... It's pretty shiney. Especially with flash on. Which I really wanted to avoid.
The material must be fairly cheap since it's completly see-through, as you can see in my pictures above. This is what annoys me the most, considering I paid $250 for the dress and I can see through it. Since the top and bottom of the dress are seperates you can see a big chunk of skin through it, like a faded tan. Don't get me wrong, it's a nice... satin-type material. Just... it's almost like looking through a window. That see-through.
there's purple ribbon around the gloves, which is in none of the reference pictures I sent her. Since the gloves just hang off of me I'm guessing the ribbon is to keep them on. I dunno if she noticed and didn't want to make them again or what.
I CAN'T use the gloves at ALL.
I don't know what she used to measure these out... but they stay the SAME size the whole way down the arm.
If I recall correctly, our arms get smaller toward the wrist area.
There's a slit in the top which only gives me more room and they don't stay up at all, even with the random ribbon she sewed into them. I'm going to have to make these all over again. @_@
It kind of reminds me of an ebay costume. I know that's rather harsh, but I've had friends buy things from ebay that looked about the same as the dress, quality wise. I'm really disappointed in the material and how see-through it is.
The dress really does NOT seem like it's worth $250... maybe $125.
Also, She claims to be in California in her well-written ad. Her package came from China. Her English is terrible in her emails. She sells e-Bay worthy costumes (terrible ones) for a RIP-OFF price.
She's a nice girl and responded to my emails REALLY quickly. But from the reviews I've read about her compared to my own experience... I don't understand how she has such amazing reviews.
it makes me feel rather harsh.
Yet I've had costumes made in the past for FAR less with much better material and simply were better quality.
I also sent the payment and let her know, she responded... and six days later no dress. I emailed her and she said she didn't know I sent the payment til then. ....then why did she email me telling me she got it? @_@
I won't commission from her again, and I won't refer my friends to her...
And, to be fair, Garnet's dress is tricky. Which is why I wanted someone else to make it for me.
But she's a commissioner, and I expected far more for what I paid. >>;;;
