Ooh, thanks a bunch! I wasn't sure if they just said that because they wore out or what...

And I want a violet that will stand out enough to show in pictures and from a bit far away. I thought at first the colormax violet was perfect, but somewhere on a site it said 4 hours. Now I'm kinda paranoid every other vivid purple I see will last the same.

I do have another question, though

If it doesn't say so on the site, how do I know how long I can wear them for? I was thinking of buying the Venus Violet from here http://www.nighteyes.cc/products.asp?cat=2 but I don't want to pay for contacts I can't wear as long as I need to.

I really cannot answer this with specifics as there are too many variables. What I mean to say is that you should get to an eye doctor if you are seriously considering contact lenses. Lenses are made from different materials and only an eye doctor would be able to tell whether the material the Venus lenses are made from will be compatible with your eyes.

Furthermore, there are other things to consider such as base curve and diameter. Venus lenses are available only in the standard 8.6/14 measurements but if your eyes do not fit said standard measurements, your lenses will be uncomfortable to wear and can damage your eyes. Lastly, while lenses may be rated for 10-12 hours of wear, dependent upon your eyes, maybe your eye doctor says you should only wear them for 8 hours. There are so many things to consider when dealing with contact lenses and they need to be taken seriously because vision is precious.

Spending the $50+ for an eye exam & fitting + lens cost is a much better alternative to suffering from eye damage etc due to ill-fitting/incompatable lenses.

I was wondering if there is any recommendations for online bought colored contacts, such as a price range of $20-35 with various of choices? It would be mine and my boyfriends first time buying and putting on contacts. And we are worried of websites who sells contact lens would rip us off or that the quality of the lens aren't very good and might do harm to our eyes. Any words of advice to the lost?

I'm not sure what Walmart charges currently for eye exams and fittings, but visiting a Walmart vision center is a cheap way to get an exam.

You can get lenses directly from an eye doctor so you know you'll:
a.) Actually get them
b.) Know they're legit and not made of sub-par materials that will damage your eyes
c.) Often get a better deal because drs offices have access to specials etc not offered to consumers

Is it possible to wear my prescription glasses over a non-prescription lens? I don't have enough money to buy prescription lens, much less an red lens. But without my glasses I'm blind as a bat and can hardy see the faces of people 20 feet away.

One time at the con I took off my glasses for about 10 min and somehow I had accidentally mistaken a popular cosplayer group with another right in front of their faces. I was so embarrassed and I don't want to walk around without my glasses at a convention ever again!

What should I do, get prescription lens or just keep removing my glasses in-n-out during a convention?

There's no reason you cannot wear your glasses while wearing plano lenses, it won't affect your vision and it's not like the glasses are "in" your eyes along with contact lenses. A lot of people do this and remove glasses just for photos and photoshoots. No one is going to yell at you for wearing glasses when you're walking around the convention - really, there are a lot of glasses-wearers, we all understand the situation.

It's ultimately up to what you are most comfortable doing. In my last post I was merely stressing the importance of getting an eye exam and lens fitting if you are going to get lenses, whether they are powered or plano.

I cannot tell you what you should do - you need to decide this for yourself. Here are some questions from the first page that may help you decide what you should do - answer honestly to yourself:
What: are you using them for? To add to a cosplay, to get glasses off your face?
When: will you wear them? Just for that one cosplay, just one time, or can they be used for many costumes or daily wear? Will you wear them often?
How: much money are you willing to spend? Initial eye exam/fittings cost $50+ and add the price of lenses, don't cheap out and get counterfit lenses
When: do you want them? During peak season like Halloween, many offices and shops are being bombarded with appointments and purchases, plan ahead.
Are: you responsible enough to take care of your lenses AND your eyes? Be honest with yourself here.

Correct! They will measure your eyes so you can get lenses with the proper base curve and diameter. Also, they will select lenses made of a material best suited for your eyes. The appointment shouldl be pretty quick for you if you do not need your lenses powered. Good luck ^^

So I'm planning on doing a Lucy costume from Elfen Lied. There's really only two ways to go: pink or red. Most pinks are neon, baby, or purple. Most reds are plain red (no detail), evil red, or Naruto contacts. I was hoping for something natural-looking, but it's almost impossible.

After digging through probably a hundred pages on the Soompi thread, I found ONE post that had both pink AND red contacts that didn't look cheap.

They're Geo SFs, and the other colors are pretty neat too.




Does anyone have any pictures of themselves wearing these colors? Preferably dark eyes? Do they come in prescription?

I think this question would be better suited for the Contact Lenses for Dark Eyes thread, for future reference. No one on coscom seems to have reviewed the specific lenses you're looking at though one person did mention that the SF-20 style is Plano only (non-prescrip). Search function and various keywords may yield more information.

It's no problem at all. I can't say I blame you for buying the lenses, they look amazing and not as boring or fake as a single colored lens.

Exactly. And even though I've seen a few other red lenses that aren't flat, they're the most realistic looking (besides 9mmsfx, but I don't have $250 lying around). Just seems that imported lenses have more effort put into them than US lenses.

The US-FDA would rather control and give its stamp of approval to brands manufactured within the country and select Western European nations. Honestly if you're looking at an Asian brand of lenses and are unsure about them, it'd be wise/easy/safe to contact the eye doctor's office and get a professional opinion on that particular brand. I'll see if I can dig up a list of Korean and Japanese FDA approved lenses for reference.
