The FFX cosplay thread
Well, I looked around and there seem to be "official" cosplay threads for I-VI, VII, VIII, and IX, but I don't see one for X! I thought it would be cool to start a thread where all FFX cosplayers could chat about what we're doing for upcoming costumes, share ideas and experiences, and just cheer on fellow FFX cosplayers.
I see there is an official sticky for FFX-2 dress sphere costumes above, but I don't mind if people want to post in this as well for those. X-2 sphere costumes seem to not be as popular as they once were, anyway. I am seeing a lot of return to the original X costumes in the past couple of years.
Anyway, I've seen a lot of Lulus, Aurons, Yunas, and Rikkus at conventions...but not a lot of Tiduses! That makes me sad because I really love Tidus' outfit. I think the designs for X are all great, though, very challenging and colorful, which for me is a huge draw. I am a big fan of the old-school FF Amano style colorful costumes, so I was really psyched when I saw that the FFX character designs had a lot of color too!
Anyone currently working on an FFX cosplay? I am working on two right now - Jecht for my husband and Shiva for myself. We will be going as part of a larger FFX group for Otakon of next year ^_^

^ I am in Cachalot's group -- I am doing LeBlanc from FFX-2. I've seen a few recommendations and threads on how to do her costume but I think I am largely on my own. That's okay though, I'm up for the challenge.
Any Belgemine cosplayers out there though? I am just curious...

electro650's FFX at Otakon 2008 had a really awesome Belgemine...

I don't think she's on cosplay.com though, or at least I seached Belgemine cosplays and she didn't come up.
He did an excellent job though.

I've just started planning a Yuna & Rikku Psychiccer cosplay for a friend and I! We went with those because, although I love Yuna's original design, I don't think I could do it as a first costume! Also, I've always loved the look of them since I saw the dressphere online.

I'm working on a Yuna from X. She's kind of epic; obi/bow and skirt are going to be completely hand-embroidered, and I'm making her malleable staff. The gradient colors are killing me, and it's gonna be darker than the real one but I like it thus far. I need to finish spray painting it outside it before it snows though....
I splurged on some nice materials this time (no broadcloth!...except the sleeves, but they have like 4 layers of it so they look nice)..a nice white interlock knit for the top, bottomweight twill for the skirt, flannel for the obi and bow, some pink fleece for the obi lining and pretty much completely redoing everything from my original (read: crap) costume. The only things I saved were the boots (duh) and a couple of my sculpy earring and obi beads, which I re-painted anyways.
Epic, I tell you, epic. Hopefully I can finish for Ohayocon, since I'm entered in the masq and all. orz

Woow, alliebeth! I have to say I'm always reaally impressed when I see a Yuna with an embroidered skirt. It just looks so nice! And your materials sound epic o.O Post in-progress pics if you can
It's cool to see people doing the less done dresspheres too, Aleria!
I just got all the extensions and the long blue wig base I'm going to use for Shiva in the mail last week. It's AWESOME - my cosplay room looks like a barbershop for people with blue and purple hair. I think I got 13 packs of extensions, mostly in blue though I got some purple as well for highlights.
I'm really nervous!

My first cosplay ever was Yuna, I deleted my old account, so I dont have any pics of the costume up for everyone to see I might redo it in the future.

Yuna seems to be super popular. I can see why; you can either do her costume very simply, or you can go into intense amounts of detail. In a way, I guess it's quite versatile compared to other costumes.
I bought white casa satin on sale a couple weeks ago that I was going to use for a FF9 Garnet gown, but I bought new fabric for that so I'm thinking about making a Yuna wedding dress now. Hopefully I'll be able to find a pattern at Joann's this Friday. $0.99 Butterick patterns! And if not, next week there's $1.99 McCalls patterns. Yay.

Oh awesome, are patterns on sale this weekend at JoAnn?
Speaking of patterns - has anyone ever looked for a swimwear pattern before or made a bikini and have any tips? I basically need one for Shiva, and not even the bra, as that I am constructing out of a couple of bra cups and loose fabric. I just need to make the bottom. I was thinking about buying a ready-made bikini bottom and adding the straps and detailing, but I found some blue stretch spandex that was the perfect shade for Shiva, so I figured I'd just make my own ("how hard can it be?" I said, which is what I've said a lot of times about things that were harder than I thought XD)
I'm kind of a newbie to sewing, only been sewing for a year or so, and don't have much experience with patterns. I would imagine that a bikini bottom isn't that hard compared to say, a coat. But it would need to fit snugly without riding up, and I've never made anything that form-fitting before.

Easy solution: Buy a dirt cheap, ugly bikini bottom that fits how you want it to. Shouldn't be hard since it's out of season and all. Check clearance depts at like Walmart or Target or whatever.
Rip out all the seams, being careful to note which part gets attached to what. Use the separated pieces as your pattern. Voila. Probably cheaper than a "real" pattern anyways...you could probably even use the lining from the crap one for your Shiva one. More money saved XD

Hi there. Great to see a FFX thread.
I hope to be crossplaying as Tidus at some point (I'm the right height and I have muscles from stunt work).
I've done the wig, brought the jewellery and have the boots. Now to sort out the bit in the middle, lol! I have an idea on what to do for the armour but I'm a bit lost on what to use for fabrics, especially for the yellow top. Anyone have any sugguestions? Thanks.
