Officer Jenny (Let's try this again...) Please help this time? <:D
I think I've posted this thread before. Twice. I let them both eventually die, so I want to try again. I'm still in the planning stages for an Officer Jenny wig.
Her hair spikes out at all angles at the back from what I've always assumed is a pony tail. (Have another reference image...) So what might be the best way to do this? My original idea was to use Willow, tie it into a low ponytail, adding wefts as needed, and spike the hair from there. Would that work? Would the spikes hold? Is Willow a shitty choice on my part? Does this require a lot of advanced techniques? Am I really just better off commissioning it? Honestly, any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I haven't attempted something like this, but definitly think that the hair of one wig won't be enough for all those spikes. You are most likely going to need some extensions to get this mass of hair done.
Also I suggest washing the wig with slightly warm water only squeezing out the excess water and letting it shortly rest on a towel, before pinning it to a foam/wig head and carefully combing it back into the ponytail and fixing it with a hair tie.
Next you might try to find a skin colored or blue fine net, which you can attach (sew) to the original wig and put at least one extension on it. On each side of the wig.
This is for the small sideburns visible on your reference pic.
Next is the spiking.
I've only done something similar on a smaller scale for Ion's backside of the wig (Tales of the Abyss) but it should work out similar.
The hair was wet and I separated it into the strands I wanted it with small clips. I also had a hair gel, spray, a comp and a hair dryer.
I combed a strand and carefully blow dried it until for a while until it was almost dry, then I worked a bit of gel in it and styled it into the spike I needed it, before blow drying again.
After what seemed an eternitiy but was only about 10 minutes it seemed to somewhat hold and I sprayed it on both sides before once again using the hair dryer on it.
It stood. I repeated the process spread out over a couple of days because my arms felt heavy quite fast and I got tired of it. When I was done with the whole head I once more used spray. At this time the spikes felt pretty hard already.
Only then I'd start cutting. And to make sure I didn't cut the pieces connecting the spikes together, another layer of spray and heating did the trick.
Another trick that I only recommend if you are a) desperate and b) do not need the wig again for another costume is using wallpaper glue. Pretty much guarantees the hair to stand, but you might have some sort of 'white' layer over it.
Another thing that can help, is creating some sort of net in the form of the spikes - preferably in the color of the wig, which you can work into the hair of the wig and help it getting in style that way. I don't know how to explain this properly thought ^^°

Well, that's the most help I've gotten on this EVER. So thank you.
Do you think Willow would work for this?

Another interesting way you could approach this wig, especially since it's so spikey and poofy in the ponytail, is buy either a Punky or New Punky wig and wear it upside down. You would need to add alot of wefts to the bottom (which you would be wearing on your forehead), but it would give you the spikeyness in the ponytail you would need with out too much work.
I hope that made sense. I have seen a few wigs done this way, but I can't find any of them atm. ^^;

That... is actually a really good idea. The only problem is I was really hoping for the cosworx exclusive light blue color. :/
The Scruffy wigs spike pretty well, don't they? I'd have to do something with the bangs, but could Scruffy-L work pretty well?

Scruffy wigs don't spike well at all, actually. However, since you aren't techinically spiking UPWARD or straight out, you may be able to work with a Scruffy L and some extensions. It's all up to what sort of styling you want to do. With some, it could just be a bit of trimming and spiking, and with others, you'll have to put more work into it.
If you want to use an exclusive wig, though, I'd go with the Willow or maybe even Clover (the bangs could go into her.. little short piece in front with this option, not sure what to call it).

Ah, ok. Well if you look at this pic you can see her hair is more of a teal than blue. The teal color from cosworx would work well, but the Punky doesn't come in it.
I just looked over at Amphigory wigs, and they have the Punky for $1 cheaper than cosworx, AND they have more colors. The two that I think would work well are Blue or Pale Blue, just scroll down the Punky page to see that one. I think the Blue would be better since it's brighter and more saturated, but the Pale Blue is a more accurate in hue, just a bit too light.
I think it all depends on what your preference is.

No problem. I generally only check topics with no or only few replies or topics I know I can contribute something too if it hasn't been said already.
I'm not familiar with the cosworx products, but I would think so. (I've got 3-4 sellers on ebay that I'm using regulary. If you are interested I can link you, I know at least one that also has non-expensive wigs with good quality that would also fit in color)
I also however already pointed out that you might need additional hair for the spikes on the bottom and I'm not sure if cosworx has them. If not you might have to buy another wig in the same color.

I haven't read thought most of the posts here, but what could work is if you put in in a low ponytail then use something to secure the ponytail upwards alittle (like with a clip or something) as that would give it a lot of natural puff then you'd just need to put it in to spikes.

Thank you guys for all the replies.
@Liquidfire: Yeah, her hair is kind of teal. I wanted to go with the coloring from the beginning of the series though, which is more blue. The blue that you linked though, is gorgeous. If I tried what you said, what would I do with the long hair at the bottom? I'm a bit of a wig noob, so sorry if the answer's obvious. :P
@HeeHee: Ah! Good to know those don't spike well. (Was probably mixing it up with Punky). I was kind of thinking Clover might work, and you're right. The bangs would work pretty well for the little curly ques.
@Dragon: I would love a link! I figured I probably would need extensions, and Cosworx does have extensions in their exclusive line.
@Angel Cakes: I figured I would need to do something like that to give it the right shape. You think Bobby pins would work?

I think the longer hair at the bottom would even out with the spikes on the top since you would be wearing the wig upside down. And, you can always trim the longer ends off once you have it set into a ponytail, before you start spiking it.
What you might want to do is measure your head and add sufficient padding to your wighead, put the wig on the head, then spray and smooth the hell out of the bottom (which is now the top), and put into a very tight ponytail. Also, so the front hairline won't look so messy, you could try and trim out a few wefts from the middle of the wig(where you wouldn't really notice some missing), and add it to the hairline.
Once again, I hope I am making sense, lol.

They might. You'd just need a lot of them.

Oh god, that color is gorgeous. What makes you say that style would be best suited? This one caught my eye, is why I ask.

Actually only the fact that the hair is longer and you might be able to spike it up better with that. Of course you might have to cut, but with the longer one there is actually something to cut there. The one you spotted would have been my personal second choice
Thought... the one you choose might actually be better for starters. The one I took already has already been layered, so the hair doesn't have all the same lenght.
