Fusible Interfacing Causing Ripples/Wrinkles

I've been using fusible interfacing for a while now, but lately whenever I iron it onto this front piece of the jacket I'm making, it's causing ripples and wrinkles. I iron the piece beforehand to make sure all wrinkles are gone. I fuse the interfacing by placing the iron on the spot and letting it sit for 20 minutes. Then I pick it up and move it, I don't slide it. I know this causes ripples. Luckily it's only been happening on mock-ups made of muslin, but I'm going to be starting the real thing soon. Does anyone have any tips on how to avoid these ripples?

You might be using too high a temperature.

Also, which kind of interfacing are you using? Generally, you need to pre-shrink the interfacing before ironing it into the fabric. This site has the various methods for most types of interfacing.

Ohhh wow, you need to pre-shrink it too? I had no idea you had to pre-shrink interfacing. I'll try out all the tips they have there. And I can't remember what kind I bought, but it's either a woven or knit. Pretty sure it's medium weight too. Thanks! You're very helpful

Pre-shrinking was my first thought too. Otherwise, the steam from your iron may cause the interfacing to shrink slightly. Soaking it in hot water for 10-15 minutes and hanging to dry is usually all that's required.
