My first costume
I made this Optimus Prime costume out of cardboard boxes and masking tape. Took about 2 weeks to finish up the whole thing. The helmet is from Toys R Us though. Any comments?
I'm not satisfied with the lower body though. I finished the costume at the very last minute, right before I left my house for the event...

I think you could have added a bit more detail and more things to it in 2 weeks than it seeming pretty....Blocky. The only detailed thing it probably the helmet which is like stated that it's from toys r us

I like it, especially considering that collecting, taping, and painting cardboard boxes is a lot to do in 2 weeks. I think you did a great job, but agreed, the lower body could use some work. Have you considered foam board for parts that might be round or that you might have an issue using cardboard boxes for?
And Optimus Prime is SUPPOSED to be blocky. That's the basic idea. And the attention to detail on the arms and shoulders and chest is really great for the time you took to make it.

Yes I know he's blocky.

But on the cartoon he also has detail in his suit.

Thanks for all the comments. Actually I used cardboard boxes because I could get it free from my friend's grocery store. Foam would be a good idea though. But any idea how to make the waist part/groin area? Because I couldn't think a way to make it so I can sit without any problems. It ended up as a piece of cardboard in front of the costume...

Y'know, I'm still trying to figure that part out myself. The way I'm going to make the waist/belt area part of my own TF is to leave the back part of the said contraption bare, by attaching the front part to an old belt. I'm either going to carve the back half out of vinyl or soft sponge foam (like memory foam or the stuff you get for padding mattresses) so I can sit on it and dye it rather than paint it, so the pait won't rub off. That foam stuff you can just get at WalMart...
Just the fact that it's a Transformers costume you've made makes me biased....yeah, more detail could be added, but it's a accomplishment for two weeks. Make the wheels on the leg parts bigger, methinks...they're so tiny and cute...so not Optimus. :P If you plan on working on it and improving it for another con, I'd just get a lot of glue, a bunch more carboard, some scissors and a picture of G1 Optimus (or movie Optimus, whichever you're going for) and go nuts. You'd be surprised how much detail you can do in just one night.
And lastly, ya'll don't even get me started on time-consuming Transformer costumes... *sighs* And the sad thing is, I don't really 'have' the extra time...I kind of have to make time to work on Skittles...I mean, Skids.
...*wanders away*

Hugginsseller, mind if you post a pic of the groin part? I wanna use it as a reference if I'm gonna make another transformers costume... Thanks
