Black Rock Shooter Cannon/Gun
So I am working on a Black Rock Shooter cosplay to wear to ACEN.
The problem is, I'm not quite sure how to go about making her Black Rock Cannon. The thing is huge! I'd need to be able to be taken apart into 2 pieces, so I wouldn't break ACEN's "props must be 4ft long or smaller" rule. I'd also like it to be light weight so it can be transported to photo shoots relatively easily. So, any ideas/tips? Thanks in advance! Here are some reference pics of BRS and her cannon: http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2694/...80879650_o.jpg http://myfigurecollection.net/image/COLOR1267176722.jpg http://myfigurecollection.net/pictur...cid=5&fid=6588 http://www.omnicononline.com/wp-cont...pic-739540.jpg http://myfigurecollection.net/pics/figure/big/27603.jpg http://myfigurecollection.net/pictur...id=5&fid=25067 Last edited by StellarKei : 02-28-2010 at 10:37 PM. Lots of ways you can do this.
Magnets. Neodymium magnets are powerful enough to hold a prop like this together. You could have one half of the prop "slip into" the other with a male peg and a female hole and have magnets glued into either piece to secure them. Footlocker latches. It's exactly what you think. Bolt/screw. The easiest and cheapes way is to go to the hardware store and get a heavy duty carriage bolt and enough nuts of the same size to fill the bolt up with them. Bore a hole into either connecting side of the prop. Apply Vaseline to the threaded half of the bolt and fill it with the nuts. Use a super strong adhesive (such as gorilla glue or fiberglass) to attach the bolt head and shaft of one half to one half of the prop and the nuts to the other half so that the Vaseline will keep the bolt from being permanently attached to the second half and so the bolt half will unscrew freely from the 2nd prop half. ... that was a little confusing. lemme know if I need to draw it out for you.

Those sound like some good ideas! I especially like the magnets idea. :3 And I can think about the other ideas as backup. Thanks!
Now to figure out how to make the cannon itself. ![]()

As it turns out, I managed to make a cannon myself. You can see the results here:
