The Kagamine's Attack in Their Trademark Colors!
In this high-spirited and confrontational song by 一行P, The Kagamine's take on their rival in fame, Hatsune Miku. Here we'll introduce the costumes from naoto_n's PV. While simple, these ready-for-battle costumes are quite popular with Layers

"下剋上(完)"
Composer/Lyricist: 一行P
Illustrator: naoto_nhttp://www.nicovideo.jp/watch/sm4538553

Comment from naoto_n: The costumes reflect the two most dominant themes in the song: the "Japaneseness" of the melody and the "agression" of the lyrics. I wanted costumes that would compliment the style of the original video and the result was actually quite simple. I've been really touched to see so many Layers using the designs to make gorgeous costumes.

Vocaloid Reference (Official): Kagamine Rin , Kagamine Len
(all reference images are of ACT2)

Character Vocal Series 02
Produced by Crypton

Powerful Singing Voices Full of Energy! The Ustoppable Twins!

Kagamine Rin
Kagamine Len
Voice: Shimoda Asami

Second in the VOCALOID2 character series. They're often called twins, but none of the official documentation confirms it. Both are voiced by Shimoda Asami but have been pitched quite differently. Just like Miku's leek, they've got their own "specialty item" ~ a heavy construction vehicle called a "road roller". Their voices have quite a punch, but some complained that it was more difficult to draw powerful sounds from them than from Miku. In July 2008, a newly-recorded sound library version called "ACT 02" was released which addressed some of their "power" problems and altered their costume designs as well.

Hair Accessories
Both have white headsets. Rin's headset has a huge ribbon accessory attatched.

Eyes
Both have blue eyes that suit their blond hair. Their eyes shine just a bit more than Miku's

Costume
The ACT1 and ACT2 armbands have different control panels, so be careful.

Tattoos and Nails
The ACT 2 release characters have the words "ACT 2" added to their tattoos. Their nails are yellow.

Leg Wear
Rin has a speaker on her right leg-warmer. Len has one on his left.

Vocaloid Reference (Official): Megurine Luka

Character Vocal Series 03
Produced by Crypton

A Cool, Bilingual Beauty With a Husky Voice

Megurine Luka
Voice: Yuu Asakawa

Luka, 3rd in the VOCALOID2 character voice series, was programmed to be a bilingual pop star. Her design concept is "breath". Her voice bank is deep, but airy and so is her look, with flowing hair and clothing. Her costume has a "physical design modelling synthesizer" motif and plays with brass and woodwind instrument imagery. The blue stone brooch at her throat adds some weight, water imagery and emphasis to her throat ~ the source of her voice.

Hair
Her hair is faded pink, as though red hair had faded after years of air flowing through it.

Eyes
Luka has ivory pale skin which offset her cool, muted blue eyes.

Tattoo
"03" is written on her left arm to denote her number in the series.

Nails
Her nails are painted the same water-blue as the stone at her throat.

Accessory
The valves and piping on her chest are part of a horn motif.

Costume
Her skirt has a deep slit and her top reveals her bellybutton. She has an arm cover on her right arm.

Slit
The border of her skirt's slit has a clarinet motif in gold. Underneath it, you can see her long, gold boots and black thigh-high stockings.

How-To: Apply Temporary Character Tattoos (Vocaloid)

Tattoos for 4 different characters have been included as a gift with this magazine. So please wear them at events to bring your costume to the next level. Just cut out the sticker for your favorite character and use it. Be sure to read the instructions and warnings on the back of the sticker for the best results.

(Note: Layers Bible vol. 2 comes with one sheet of temporary tattoos for the 4 Crypton VOCALOID2 character series characters Miku, Rin, Len and Luka.)

01: Cut out the sticker
When you decide which sticker you want to use, cut it out. Leave plenty of space around the edges. It might even be easier to pre-cut the sheet into four seperate parts and store them in the envelope until you want to use them.

02: Remove the protective sheet
Remove the protective transparent veneer over the sticker. Hold the sticker carefully by the edges.

03: Decide on placement
Decide where on your arm you want the seal and press the design against your skin (clean skin works best). Make sure the design is right-side-up.

04 Moisten the sticker
Hold the sticker steady so it won't slip and use a wet sponge to moisten the paper completely.

How-To: Apply Temporary Character Tattoos (Vocaloid) (part 2)

05: Remove the paper backing
After 30 seconds, slowly remove the paper backing from the sticker. The tattoo should remain on your skin.

06 Blot away the extra water
Use a tissue to gently dry the area around the tattoo. Don't rub, just pat gently.

Making a Starry-Sky Uniform Patch from Felt and Iron-on Print

Here we'll introduce an easy method to create the uniform patches on each arm of the costumes in "Starry Sky". The uniforms are quite stylish and so is the school crest. You might think it's beyond your abilities at first, but with just some felt and iron-print, it's actually not that hard to make!

You'll Need:
1) felt (blue, grey and black)
2) iron print sheeting (flocky print)
3) interfacing
4) white thread

Step 1 ~ Cut out clean circles
Cut circles out of your felt as shown. When you're satisfied with the shapes, attatch interfacing to the back side of the black circle.

Step 2 ~ Cut out the designs
We're going to use the iron print to make the more complicated design, so trace or draw the two white designs before cutting them out. You might need a pen-knife for the more delicate pieces.

Step 3 ~ Glue the circles together
Glue the gray circle on top of the black one.

Step 4 ~ Iron on the design
Place your main-design over the gray circle before ironing it on. Then glue the blue felt over the top before ironing on the remaining white piece.

Step 5 ~ Sew the edges
Sew around the edge of your patch with a machine zig-zag stitch. Circle the whole patch 2 or 3 more times for a thick, embroidered look.

Making a Starry-Sky Uniform Patch from Felt and Iron-on Print (part 2)

Step 6 ~ Add the character with magic marker
Using a magic marker, draw the character "高" and you're done! To keep the pen from running or making a mistake, it's best to test the fabric first.

A fantastic patch that recalls the glittering stars in the night sky!

Vocaloid Reference (Official): KAITO

Produced by Crypton

An Easy-Going 'Niichan with An Uplifting Voice

KAITO
Voice: Fuuga Naoto

Successor to MEIKO, this VOCALOID was born in 2006. This time Crypton used the professional singer, Fuuga Naoto as the source for his voicebank.
His voice is versatile, pliant and is suitable for music of all genres. Unfortunately, quite a lot has been written about how thin and underpowered his voice can sound. There's only one official image of KAITO, the one on his original package. Even so, he's found a sort of second life on Nico Nico Douga where, thanks to his "Ice Cream Song", he's developed both a legendary longing for haagen daaz and a huge following of fangirls.

Muffler
On the package art, KAITO is wearing what appears to be a scarf but it usually interpreted as a muffler. (note: in Japanese a "scarf" is lightweight and decorative while a "muffler" is winter-wear)

Coat
A long white coat with a body hugging fit for a slim line. The sleeves are flared and end in large cuffs.

Vocaloid Reference (Official): MEIKO

Produced by Crypton

An Active Gal With A Natural Straightforward Strength!

MEIKO
Voice: Haigo Meiko

The first Japanese VOCALOID was born in 2004. Singer-Songwriter Haigo Meiko provided her soundbank. In order to create interest with DTMs and the regular populace, the voice synthesizer program was given a girl's name: "MEIKO". It was the first VOCALOID program to get package art and the very first in the "Character Vocal Series". These days she's enjoying a second-life as a big-sister character for the other VOCALOIDs.

Hair
MEIKO has a natural brown short haircut. Her bangs are girlish and part to the right.

Costume
Her tight top showcases her breasts and stomach. A miniskirt in the same color rounds out the look.

Vocaloid Reference (Official): Kamui Gakupo

Produced by Internet Co. Ltd.

A Beautiful Warrior Ready to Slash the Music Scene Open With His Sword of Love!

Kamui Gakupo
Voice: GACKT

This VOCALOID is voiced by none other than GACKT himself. His illustrations were provided by the well-known manga artist behind series' like "Berserk", Miura Kentarou who was singled out for the project by fans on Nico Nico Douga. His costume is reminiscent of a samurai, with huge, flowing sleeves. Miura-Sensei's rough sketches were also published on Internet Co. Ltd.'s website, so it's easy to get a very specific grip on different elements of his costume design. Fans have given him an eggplant as an image item, thanks to the color of his hair and often draw him beside giant anthropormorphic eggplants or in the company of his beloved "horse".

Costume
He's in a two piece hakama and kimono top styled in the image of a samurai. His sleeves are patterned in a "soundwave" design that mimics the look of sound when projected.

Back
The character "楽" is emblazoned on the back of his kimono top. The character takes on a shape similar to the waves and curls that dominate the rest of his costume.

Inner Wear
On his chest is a circle which displays the rhythm to which he's singing, on his stomach are lights which indicate volume and strength.

Sword and Armor

The "Sword of Love" displays soundwaves when it's drawn. The shoulder armor is in a similar mixer motif.
