Steampunk hair?

I recently put together a steampunk outfit for Otakon, which is completely finished down to the pair of socks I'm going to wear, but I have one problem: How should I do my hair?

Doing a true victorian updo would take quite a bit of time (and really nice hairpins) and curling my hair into thick ringlets is a little bit beyond my expertise. And, to top it all off, have a hat. I had to make a hat >_<

My hair is incredibly curly (especially if I don't straighten it when it dries), so I don't necessarily need curlers. I was thinking something like this, but simpler:

Any ideas?
