I don't even have any full cosplays at this point, to be honest.

However, I'm going to celebrate by working on either my costume or cosplay photography. I've got the morning to work on Beatrix, and the afternoon to learn how to use my new camera, which I'm totally getting so that I can get more into cosplay photography.

It's all related, yes? :D

I was going to go to dinner with two friends, all in costume, but now they're both busy. Our area is so small that no one else is going to be in costume so we're going to make up for it on a random, not-Halloween day. I mean, where's the fun in dressing up at random if... it's expected? That's not so random. I also don't think it will harm the hobby at all, or change the public's view of us. I wore costumes at random all through high school and college, and no ever seemed to mind as long as I was just as polite as normal.

I'll be dressing up in my Organization 13 coat that I just (Almost-still need to hem the bottom and add the chain) finished 15 minutes ago whenever I go out

Also, I wouldn't say that pre-packaged costumes can't be cosplay. I've seen some awesome pre-packaged cosplays at large.
wow, thats nothing short of redefining cosplay in that one combo, the kinda thing that craps on my fandom and its custom. You have not seen non-themed characters at specific themed cons? What are you dressing up and honoring now? if it falls under every catagory, whats the fandom here? "just everything"? just to fit in with facebook? before purist is used, remember, catagories. No one calls the wallstreet journal a comic book, Larp video game, you can if you DESIRE, but in all practicality, a prepackaged costume is a hollow way to include yourself on an activity liek this, and facebook preaches involvement, no one cares about fandom or "tru" cosplayers.
kick my ass if I offended you, but going easy on people isn't easy sometimes XD
and I agree with you on like everything else you say.

cause no cons are held on friday.....i'd be surprised if no con was going on this particular one. Halloween changes days every year, it's good to see that.
the idea seems very empty, to involve social networking on the whole deal which people do anyway everyday. What will be the difference between what you do an any other day? uploading pics and inclusiveness.
and facebook linking here with these events just seems....pointless. Unless you hate cos.com why not just post here to begin with?
I'm not against it? but the whole thing sounds soggy

I don't know why you are apparently angry at me

I know of a cosplayer who cosplays The Evil Queen from Snow White in a cosplay she bought. It is amazing. I've even seen people slightly modify cosplays they bought at Disneyland or a Halloween store, and it looking really really good. I know people who bought packaged Bleach cosplays which are slightly inaccurate, but not so dramatically that I would say "That's not cosplay."

Maybe that's not what you are talking about, though. If it isn't, could you clarify what you mean?

I doubt Facebook created the event. It's probably not an official Facebook event. Anyone who belongs to Facebook can create events and even create ads for them that look official if they are willing to pay the money. Hell, I myself created "Change Your Status to a James Joyce Quote" day and if I was willing to pay the price I could have had little ads targeted to people who have certain interests show up on the side of Facebook.

The point of this event seems to be to go out on a day that isn't a con or Halloween. Maybe you will be all alone or maybe you will be with your friends. Maybe you will go to school and someone you didn't know was into anime or cosplay shows up in cosplay. Either way it's something different and breaks up the monotony of the average day.

I would say that another point would be to encourage cosplay in every day life, which I am all for. Life is too short to wear boring clothes. However I am too shy and scared to do it by myself. So if there's even a chance that other people have organized to also do it it makes it much easier for me.

There are a few cons that open this weekend on a Friday (8/27):

Nom Con in Dublin, Fan Expo in Toronto, Chibi-Pa in West Palm Beach, Ani-Nite in Vienna, Abunai in Holland and a con in Philly called Inochicon. You can celebrate at those events.

I may put on my Dr. Strange costume and give it a try while I'm out on Friday. Got nothing else to do. Not sure where I'll wear it though. LOL May visit my friends at the comic shot for the heck of it. They've been wanting me to pop in there for a while now. xD As Dr. Strange. Maybe I can used this as an excuse... If I can get that amazing collar done. O_O

But it would be fun to have a day like this. If not, Conventions still do it in for me.

Just pointing out that most American cons start on a Friday, if not Thursday, and the sheer volume of them ensures that there is probably a con going on somewhere in North America on any given weekend. (Case in point, I know a couple who, last summer took a huge road trip and hit a con every weekend of that summer. That's a con every weekend for three months straight.)

I might wear my Silver jacket or something tomorrow, since it's not going to be horribly hot, but I'm not going to go anywhere in all-out cosplay or anything.

I didn't 'cosplay' today, but I wore my wig (the one on my icon) to school all day for fun.

I worked. Why? I have to make money and it's more important to me than some silly cosplay day. I did not want to request off for this.

Likewise, it seems like a day for the irksome stereotypes (the OMG KAWII!!) fangirls to run about in their eBay akatsuki coats with no wigs and glomp random people cause LOL ITS COSUPRAY DAYYYY

Pardon my french, fuck that.

Thank god I've not seen anyone in costume today (/works at a mall). I would have security escort them out if they even remotely caused a ruckus.

I dressed in my Katara to run errands, since I didn't have to go anywhere (work or classes) where I could get in trouble for it. I even did my hair bun above the braid, even though I hate that thing. It was very fun and freeing, and I'm only sad that I didn't have more to do and that I didn't see anyone else in costume. Honestly, some of the venom against cosplaying other than for conventions or shoots makes me very sad. Especially coming from cosplayers. ;_; If someone is having fun and not causing trouble, why care if they're dressed like someone from an anime, game, or in jeans and a t-shirt?

Side note, the only thing someone said to me was a compliment, I had a bunch of people give me little smiles or waves, a lot of confused "Wait, am I missing something?" expressions, and only one outright mocking/judgemental reaction, and this was from obnoxious kids driving past in a car with too-loud rap playing. I gave them the same expression and went back to fixing my car. Overall, it was a ton of fun and I can't wait till my sister and friend are free to really celebrate this art.

Sorry if this is a bit rambling or disjointed or just generally odd. I had to treat for an allergy and now I'm drowsy. ;_;
