"Real Person" cosplay? - Page 2

My two biggest cosplays are JRock ones, so yeah, I cosplay real people. -shrug- I've noticed there seems to be, more often than not, a kind of stigma associated with "real person" cosplayers. Comments like "wouldn't you feel creeped out if you saw someone dressed as YOU?????" just don't make sense to me. If I saw someone dressed as me, insignificant, non-famous, non-glamourous me, then heck yes I'd be creeped out. But the people I cosplay are famous, glitzy, bit of attention-whores (in the good sense

), and fabulous, so why wouldn't I want to cosplay them? The man I crossplayed even said he thought our (my friend's and I) cosplays of him were fantastic! That's the biggest compliment I think a cosplayer can be given, to be told by the very person they're cosplaying that they look wonderful.

I've cosplayed as Amano Tsukiko (a J-rock singer) a number of times. I'm a huge fan of hers, and all her costumes in music videos were amazing, so I had to go for it, even though no one recognized my costumes.

It does seem a little strange to think about cosplaying as a real person, but really, Amano Tsukiko was sort of a character anyway, since it was a stage name and her real life is totally shrouded in secrecy. I'd like to think that she would be flattered that people want to dress like her and make her beautiful costumes (she desinged most of them herself, by the way).

I did Toshi last Otakon, but when I showed up at the Otacafe, I was asked by some young ladies who were smiling at me who I was cosplaying as. Before I could answer that I was dressing as Toshi, the lady told me that I looked like Yoshiki (even my son's friend, when I was showing her the situation [I showed her Toshi in the Weekend PV and then Yoshiki], told me that I looked like Yoshiki in the Weekend PV). It happened a second time the same day, when someone who yelled "Toshi!" at me, told me that at first, she thought I was cosplaying Yoshiki. I guess that settles the issue as to whom I can cosplay (I always thought I was more of Toshi though, since Toshi looks like a rock star version of my dad

lol I was thinking of doing Lady gaga myself from her Telephone video. Amazing how much of a character she is. Inspires us crazy costume makers to want to recreate what she does every day of her life. -shakes head-

Ive cosplayed Gaga's Disco ball dress for a con, her Just Dance disco bra costume soon to be worn for halloween and her telephone caution tape one for a friends birthday party. Hm Other real people....I am DYING to cosplay Amanda Palmer because shes just so amazing.

Ive also seen someone cosplay Jamie from Mythbusters ^^ It weas a really good costume!

How about a Parochial school student crossplay/cosplay using an actual school uniform? That's on my Halloween menu this year.

Yes, I'm trying to get together a Bowie-style costume by Halloween! Eek! I just can't find a shirt I like.

I've seen a lot of pop stars and reality tv stars. At A-Cen 2009, there were two Rick Astleys.

I'm planning on doing Madonna from "Express Yourself" because she's just so gorgeous in that video, and my husband is going to do some of Weird Al's costumes because he looks like him. It's fun stuff.
