I have to say, that one of the best investments I ever made was spending $20 on the Dharma Trading swatches. I refer to them all the time when I'm ordering fabric online from anyone. Having examples of weaves and weights right in front of me is so so helpful in making decisions.

Fabric terminology is really confusing. Even after years of sewing, I still have to stop and think about it. The first thing to keep in mind is whether a word refers to the weave or the fiber. Satin is a weave. Silk is a fiber. Twill is a weave. Wool is a fiber.

I'm having a hard time figuring out what fabric to use for my Rin Kagamine top. I plan on using the Sew Classic Rodeo for the black/gray parts. It's kind of rough so I really don't want to use that for the top. But there's a sale going on for all Sew Classic Apparel fabric at Jo-Ann's and I was wondering if there were any suggestions for her top.

Hey guys I was wondering what you thought on Euphemia li Britannia's formal attire (far left) I'm not sure what type I was going to use something fancy because she is royalty but I don't think I like the idea of the dress being shiny...

Any suggestions?

I think that pretty much any medium weight plain woven is going work for the blouse. I wouldn't make the weight or texture too different from the black that you use for the collar. Though you can always line the white part if you need to add more weight/opacity.

If price is no object, I'd go with silk. Probably a crepe de chine. New York Fashion Center and The Silk Baron are both excellent sources for silk. You could go with Dharma Trading (significantly cheaper) for the white. Or, really, the pink as well, if you are willing to dye. Or for the pink, you could do a layer of pink silk chiffon over something less expensive for the under layer.

I would personally go with delustered satin, also known as duchess satin and angel satin. Unlike party satin, it doesn't have an intense shine. It's got a very understated shine and and is extremely thick, giving it a beautiful fall for more structured dresses like Euphemia's.

If I put eye holes in it, It'll mar the costume. What fabric would be easy enough to see through that I could wear it all day? It doesn't need to be all that durable, it's not like it'll be moving.

I don't know about the fabric, but that ring looks like it's actually a ring with a rod on the bottom(think the shape of a bubble wand or a quidditch hoop xD) For a metal piece thats already that shape, the only thing that pops into my mind are those metal logic puzzles that you have to dissemble to solve. A lot of those have pieces shaped like those, so maybe look around for one of those to take apart?
