Will anyone recognize me?

Hey guys. Just needed some advice from frequent cosplayers.

This May, I'll be at my first con (Animazement). I wanted to cosplay as the Nostalgia Critic, but when I told my friend, she said no one would know who I was.

Just wondering, have you ever seen a Nostalgia Critic cosplay? Have you ever cosplayed as him? What I want to know is, am I really likely to be unnoticed by everyone? I know that with my limited resources I'm not going to make a huge splash anyway, but I want at least one person to recognize me. Should I not cosplay as him then?

(my other option is Ranma Saotome, but that is a more difficult costume).

Although, i've never seen him. Im pretty sure your bound to find SOMEONE who knows who you are. It doesnt necessarily have to be recognized though. I think those cosplay make you unique in a way. So that way when people come up and ask you are, you then have the chance to tell them some things about either your charcter or the anime!

I'd say Go for it! You have a long line of cosplay to do (i hope) in which you will have many opportunities to be noticed.

(Just an example) I went to a fairly small con as Yui Hirasawa, although almost everybody didnt know who i was i had one fan, really excited to see that someone cosplayed Yui.

I live under a rock for the most part, but I would vaguely at least say "he looks a bit like the Nostalgia Critic" if it were eerily like him, not sure if I'd assume it was on purpose. I'm sure if I liked him I'd point it out, so you'll probably get noticed.

Wow, that makes me feel bad, I'm sitting here going "who the heck is the 'Nostalgia Critic'?"

That being said, I think it matters more that your having fun with a character you enjoy rather than worrying about people recognizing you. I have a few cosplays I'm considering that are over a decade old, from a fairly unpopular game, but that's not stopping me!

If you want to be recognized, go as a Narutard, if you want to have fun, go as whoever you please! ^____^

This exactly. I had a friend that cosplayed both the Nostalgia Critic and the Angry Video Game nerd. He says most people didn't recognize him, but the few people that did, he found to be more worth wild. So do it, just make sure that you having fun is of a bigger priority here than being recognized.

Problem with a cosplay like that is that you would actually have to look like the person to really pull it off. It's not like they wear anything particularly recognizable aside from glasses and a receding hairline, really.

It'd have the same problem as cosplaying characters that wear relatively normal clothing: People might not notice you're even wearing a cosplay right away. Their eyes will be drawn to the elaborate and bright colored costumes everyone else is wearing and not pay as much attention to "normal" human beings.

I suggest maybe wearing a logo on your shirt to give others a hint as to who you are.

If someone asks, you can dramatically flare open your coat and be like "I am.... THE NOSTALGIA CRITIC!! ...I have a graphic tee that proves it!"

Though I don't know much about him/not a fan, I sort of know how the guy looks like, but I'm not sure if I would recognize it... Probably would just think his outfit looks a bit like that of NC.

But if you want to do it, go for it! I'm sure there are people that will recognize you.

I dont really think it matters if people recognize you; it's how good your cosplay looks.
I'd be much more impressed by a well made costume of a character I dont know rather than an awful representation of a very common character.

Wow, I'm actually watching that right now.
So uh I dunno, I hadnt heard of it till I clicked on his review of Nickelodeon (ohhh man the nostalgia) some hours ago and been browsing his videos since. So a bit of random timing, but he doesnt seem incredibly popular, but hell who knows people might. Perhaps carry around some old dvd boxes of nostalgic movies he reviews (never ending story 2 and 3, a lot of animated films, you can often find them in the bargen section of target for 5 dollars) which would make you more recognizable to people who watch him.

I watch the Nostalgia Critic and really love his show. I say go for but if you really wanna add a bit more noticability to the cosplay, I suggest also carrying something that is quite signature to him too. That or carry a sign with a popular quote from him XD

This.

I was looking recently at a character as a possible future cosplay and I realized "he wears nothing unique, his entire wardrobe is normal street clothing" so basically nobody would recognize him. (Though again, this raises the question of "would it be fun to cosplay even if nobody recognizes you?" if the answer is "yes, I love the character and want to RP him" then go for it, but if its "recognizing is required or it would be creepy and I might even get thrown out" (ala L from DeathNote) then look at someone else to cosplay.

I love NC. It`s a quick costume I threw together. Not for Halloween.
