Fabric that resembles fur?

I realize that faux fur is fabric if you wanna get technical but I am looking for something that can 'mimic' a short haired fur. Is there something I can do to a certain fabric to give it the texture and look of fur?

You could try eyelash polyester, or chenile, you could also try wool. Really though, what kind of fur are you looking at emulating?

Do you have a reference image of what you're trying to make? It could give a better idea of what you're trying to do. I know that there are feathered fabrics out there, there are also pads with pre-sewn feathers on them (Usually used for hats) that you could use as well, but if you're looking to do something more cartoony, then your options open up a lot more.

It's suppose to be a 'secret' cosplay I'm doing for MTAC next year so I may delete the link after you see it so my friends don't stumble upon it XP

I'm planning on making it out of foam and then covering it with fabric. Since this thing is so massive I'll need an affordable fabric. I was thinking for the white underbody either white felt or fleece. Pretty much clueless on what to make the rest out of ( without spending a small fortune )

Thanks for your help, I really appreciate it ^_^

If you want, we can move this to PM so you can hide everything then. I would recommend maybe using flannel. It's fairly affordable, has a bit of stretch, lightweight and is soft. It will give you more of a toony look, but I would think that's what you're going for, ya? Though, I don't think you can avoid the use of fur for the tail.

It's all good I just took the link off :P Thanks for offering thou. Ah didn't even think of flannel - the stretch is has will work much better than felt. I was afraid that I may have no choice on the tail >_< oh wells! What do u thin about fleece for the blue part and flannel for the white underbody? Or vise versa? Or should I just stick with flannel for both?

If you want the darker part a little thicker, fleece could work. Keep in mind though that some fleece curls a bit after cutting, so you might want to finish the edges before sewing them together for a flat seam. If not, then I suggest flannel for all of it because it is thinner.
