What to use for materia

Help! Me and my friends are getting a Final Fantasy VII cosplay group and we have no materia. I know they have official materia sets, but they cost like $40 each, and I need a bunch of them. Does anyone know how to get lots of materia for fairly cheap?

What size materia do you need? In-game, it looks around an inch in diameter, while in FF:AC, it's much larger. If you're going with the smaller version, they sell glass marbles that look very similar.

Most craft stores sell plastic spheres/ornaments in various sizes that you can paint. Metallic paints looks great on them for materia too.

I recently came across these bouncy balls that have water and glitter inside. They come in a bunch of different colours and at least two sizes, the smaller of which would do nicely for the Advent Children variant. I found them at Bed Bath and Beyond, of all places, but I daresay they'd probably turn up other places as well.

Sewing commissions are on hold, but I still do custom pattern-drafting. PM for details.

I second this I've seen some clearish bouncy balls in 25-50 cent machines that look pretty dang similar to materia! You could probably get some at Party City or Factory Card Outlet in the party goodies section.
