Working with neoprene

I am interested in working with neoprene for a future cosplay. I have been reading some sites that say neoprene is really hard to sew and you need special needles. I have no problem in ordering the needles if needed but the sites that I have been reading suggest to use a special adhesive/tape. I am of course not looking to go in to the water with the fabric. I just want to know if anyone else has worked with it and could give some tips/tricks.

Thanks ^^

I'm in the same boat as you, I'm making a grampis pilot suit from Blue Sub 6. I have sewn neoprene one time before. It broke my machine and I had to hand sew everything, not easy. Luckily what I was sewing wasn't meant to look pretty but for this project I need to get it perfect.

Let me know if you find any good resources or info.

If you have a walking foot for your machine, and since it stretches, I would say use either a serger or a zigzag stitch of some type
