$70 bucks isn't that much more than $65. I'll pay it. I'll pay it when it goes up again. Otakon is THAT worth it to me, that worth it.

Last time I was at King's Dominion it was $35, but someone said they were going to increase the price xD
If Otakon went up to $100+, I'd rather go AnimeNext(since the only thing im really excited about is the Digimon shoot) & then travel the 18+ hrs to see my girlfriend. I didnt get the chance to enjoy it last year, which is the main reason im going this year. $100 is a lot of money for me seeing how thats half my paycheck :/

Otakon does group pre reg right? Is that going to be cheaper than normal pre reg price?

Nope, they haven't done a group pre-reg thing in years.

At some cons, if you can get together a large enough group, you can pre-register for the con as a group for a discounted price. For example, AnimeNEXT discounts $5 per registration if you register with at least eight people via mail.

Some amusement parks, events, etc. charge about $80 for ONE DAY. Otakon is charging $70 for Three. But that's just my optimism.

I'm a little let down that they increased the price this year, but alas, it is a huge event, and thus it gives incentive/opportunity to up the price so that they can cash in more money.

We don't "cash in" on anything. It makes up for the gap between income and what it actually costs to run the convention.

I'd be concerned that an increase in cost of the badge means less attendees can afford it (a significant chunk of Otakon attendees are under 18 after all) which would mean less money to recoup costs.

Its really not that horrible of a price hike, imo, especially when you think about the cost of most amusement parks being around $75-80 for a day (what is Cedar Point up to now, anyway?) I pay a lot of money for my usual summer events (Pennsic is around $200) so really, Otakon is a "cheap" summer vacation from my standpoint. And with a lot of cons raising their badge prices to around $50, Otakon's $70 isn't really all that bad, especially given the location.

$50 is a lot more manageable/cheaper than $70.

Even NYCC is $65, and you're getting 1 1/2 cons there ( I refuse to believe that an Anime Festival truly exists there, even with anime guests packed into a small portion of the autograph alley )

I just don't understand how an extra $5 is so suddenly unmanageable. If $65 was reasonable, and manageable, then why is $70 so utterly horrible?

Well I think you should re-look at NYCC it's $65 for three days $85 for all four days on Pre-Reg, On Site is $75 for three days $100 for four days.
