-Fanservice of ANY kind, though yaoi seems to be particularly prominent and annoying because EVERYONE does it. I go to the masquerade to see awesome costumes and well-thought out routines..Not some poorly-recorded fanfic full of inside jokes that most people won't get and ending with Sasuke and Naruto making out.
-Bad dance skits. I mean, if you want to do a dance skit, fine! Those can be fun and entertaining, but please, please do lots of practice, especially if you're with a group. As an audience member, my heart breaks for you when you get up there and half of you look like you don't know what you're doing. -Skits that run on for far too long. Short and sweet is the best, in my opinion.

Ah yes, because going on a stage and doing the chicken dance shows just how talented you are. *rollseyes* I totally agree with ya.
Those are for cheesy weddings, bad raves and children's roller rinks. Not for stage performances. |

Agreed. I actually stopped going to the cosplay masquerades because the last few I attended were practically just dance oriented. I thought I was watching some strange dance competition rather than a collection of cosplay scenes. I personally feel that going up on stage and just dancing does not count as a skit, it fits better under the dance routine category, which is not what masquerades are for.

I've only been to few, but because they're usually pretty similar, I stopped going. Included were Hare Hare Yukai in all of them. An Avenue Q song 2. A Who's Line is it Anyway - like skit with people who (could be funny with friends) but on stage, lack a sense of humor so turned to bad internet meme's. And one cleverly done Scott Pilgrim scene.
Those were the ones that stuck out to me. |

and yet my friends say that "all action" skit sucks xO
so i guess ima pull one off at Sakura Con 2012... see how that goes. any suggestions? so far I got a friend who is cosplaying as a Ninja and me who is cosplaying as a sniper.... my original plans were a Ninja vs Sniper show down....but there were a few stunts that well...lets just put it hard core....but not workable with my friend (Ninja)

How do people feel about dance skits done outside conventions. I'm performing with a group doing Motteke! Sailor Fuku and a few Jpop songs at the university's spring festival. Others are going to be doing Vocaloid and Kpop dances. I'm hoping most of the audience won't be sick of those things by now.

oh good times good times. Sometimes its just easier to do skits on your own but its less inspired and I'd assume entertaining at that.

I know this is a little bit hypocritical and I'm sorry for posting a "would you all kill me if I did..." in this thread, but:
Would the internet hate me if I did a Princess Tutu skit in her Swan Lake var tutu and had (well-known) Swan Lake music in the background and did a short dance to it, with a monologue....also appropriately Swan Lake-themed for those who would understand it? Wow, that was a really long sentence. Oh. I guess I should also mention that I take around 8 or 9 hours of technique/pointe classes every week, and I'd totally practice my dance whenever I can. Edit: @fujyoshi- Just watched that link. Oh lawd. Last edited by SakuraxTsubasa : 03-20-2012 at 08:08 PM. |

Oh lawd indeed, I feel sorry for that cosplayer in that video. They're just standing there pretty much in one place, and it looks like it really lacks polish. I feel kinda bad for them.

Are Vocaloid dance skits okay if the dances randomly get interrupted by the 'Master' who then makes the Vocaloid do a different song and dance, until the Vocaloid just quits singing?

I think the best kind of skit is the kind where, if the audio is cut out/doesn't work, you can still understand what is happening. Now, I am a theatere techie so I'm around actors slot but still...
There was this one skit I saw on YouTube. It was a hilarious pokemon skit that sort of parodied the "can I have yo' numba" thing XD
