I've never heard this before. I can't really see this being true. Though too much of anything can be bad thing. But I've never had an issue in-taking 1-1.5 gallons of water a day for long periods of time.
If your on a low calorie diet (especially a low carb, low calorie diet) and working out a lot your energy levels will tend to be lower no matter what.
One of the keys to energy levels is to not forget about how important you sleeping schedule is. I failed to mention it in my earlier post because of the length, but studies have shown inconsistent sleeping patterns and not getting enough sleep has proven to increase stress levels and fat storage.

this all depends on what you personally need, but sleep is a hugely over looked aspect of health and fitness. I like to describe being fit, looking good and being healthy as an equilateral triangle; one side nutrition, another workouts and the last side rest. All equally important.
