Garry (Ib) coat help~

So, I'm currently making Garry from Ib (guy on the left)

His coat is all ripped.. I think I'll just cut the hem and sleeves up(and burn the edges so that the fabric won't start falling apart), but as for the collar..

I want it to stand up like that, so I'll make a collar shaped like that I guess.. But..
How to make one so that it actually looks good? :I Whenever I sew something.. eh, zig-zag shaped like that, the end result doesn't look very good..

Any tips or preferably even tutorials around?

1. burning to seal the edges is only effective on polyester fabrics, light a cotton coat on fire and you will watch the whole thing go up in flames. Even fabrics that fray easily, won't fray completely apart with normal wear, you can simply sew a single line of normal stitches around the sleeves and hem as a stopping point.

2. You don't want to try and make a zig zag collar, you want to make a regular collar and tear it up Find any jacket pattern and follow the instructions. Use black inner facing so that it looks better after the destruction.

I second that for the interfacing. To make it stad up. Maybe you could sew in a few pieces of wire.
