Any SCA-ers?

Hey all, made this topic for any folks who do Medieval/ Renaissance costuming for Society for Creative Anachronism participants and related groups. This is not limited to just Western European costuming.
Please keep on topic, and only discuss actual period garments, no war bunnies, sorry. :P

I used to do more with the SCA several years ago, but I freestyle too much to suit the local taste. I have no idea what a war bunny is.

I still play with the SCA a bit, though I'm not as hardcore into as some people are. I throw axes as a hobby. I do some Middle Eastern clothing, and some ancient Roman clothing (so nice and cool for summer events) but at the moment both my friend (who got me into the SCA) and I are currently enamored with the later period garb. We're both currently working on Tudor era gowns.

I think a war bunny is pertaining to people who only go to wars like Pennsic and aren't really into the garb aspect of it? I could be way off though.

War bunny refers to people who look like their outfit was made with one bunny.
Lot of the girls around here dont really try with their outfits. Thus the term was born I suppose. Probably not as common in the cooler climates.

oooh, okay. I've seen the type that you're describing, though not very often. And no, its not common around my area, but then the weather can be very iffy here, so its not practical (not that an "outfit" like that would be anyway).

Fur bikini I think is a more generic term

Willemyne van Nymegen, full on Cleves/Cologne researcher with a big side interest in Spanish c1600. I have two websites for SCAdians (Frazzled Frau and Saya Espanola) which I am thinking of moving over to Tumblr to keep nicely updated.

I've re-enacted, done SCA, been a living historian, now I larp. I'm convinced there is crossover between the hobbies but I often meet resistance when I suggest it.

What is larp? Live action role playing.

Now when I say that I do not mean....

But rather more like this...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0pH6_...eature=related

That's Dumnonni Chronicles, my favorite larp in the UK.

Perhaps thats not fantastic enough for you? Then maybe this would be of more interest to you....

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BHhpGg7aLuU

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n7bzF5BKXt4

The ConQuest of Mythodea. The largest larp in the world, held in Germany.

or perhaps you prefer Drachenfest?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yhGqkusnOW4

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LZWadBdzyzg

I'm the organizer of the Grand Expedition, an international group of English speaking live action role players dedicated to helping people attend the best larp events in the world.

We have a facebook presence

https://www.facebook.com/pages/The-U...21329411259220

as well as our website

http://www.thegrandexpedition.org/

Still don't understand larp?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t8B12MuI4H0

So what do you think? Are there any cosplayers out there that think, "yeah I'd like to give that a shot some day." I've already begun approaching historical re-enactors, who like the living history aspect but are put off by their mental images of Role Models. I mention Game of Thrones and show them the videos above and suddenly they begin to change their minds.

What about you?

I did a lot of LARP and SCA stuff in the late 90's. From there on I moved on to re-enactment, but I do remember having had a great time at the time and I certainly recommend it!

The costuming standards in LARP have also improved massively!

One of the reasons I think I moved on from LARP to re-enactment was my dissapointment with the costumes at the time.

I'm sure most SCAers have heard of Larp.
If you'd like you can make a board for it either in the Original board - http://www.cosplay.com/forumdisplay.php?f=186
Or the Other Costumes Board - http://www.cosplay.com/forumdisplay.php?f=44 Thanks.

Anyone head out to Estrella this past March?

Our next event is Highlands here, which is a pretty nice sized event up near Flagstaff.

I don't know, I've seen some recent larp stuff, and the standards of the SCA seem a lot higher (which I like - nothing against larpers though).

out of curiosity, is anyone else going to be at the Aethelmearc War Practice in May?
