- If you need to use spray paint, don't do it on a humid day or you will get a facefull of the fumes even if you're working outside. -_-;; (I learned this the hard way and the congestion I got from it left me with a nasty head cold.)

- Wal*Mart spray paint: never again. Just invest the extra two bucks in getting less runny stuff from Michael's

- Don't cut out patterns when you're having a day of negative self-image. You will cut your fabric pieces far larger than necessary and spend 3 days fixing the hem and doing annoying seam take-ins.

- Never underestimate the number of random little details in a cosplay that could have potentially been inspired by Lady Gaga.

Interfacing in particular the fusible kind is my friend.

Awesome thread! I've already heard of two products that I will now have to try

I have learned that I am a little over-ambitious when it comes to trying new things (that's not always a bad thing but it can cause a lot of unnecessary frustration)

Hot glue can be used to sculpt small details (who knew???)

I really am terrible at resin casting Looking forward to the workshop.

Sewing that much fur can make you realize how impossible it would be to murder a muppet and get away with it. You just can't get rid of the evidence.

I am a reeeeeaaaaallly bad judge of how much time it will take to complete a project and that I must make lists and sub-lists and work on my organizational skills.

Lastly, while I may never be entirely satisfied with my work, I can still be very proud of my accomplishments.

Honestly I only use Epoxy resin from now on as it's the most fool proof.

I learned that my sewing machine desperately needs a tune up after this weekend and I'm praying that it holds out for a few more hours so that I can finish!

Funny thing concerning that - we had a sewing machine that we bought from Sears a few years back and it was terrible. But when we moved into the house almost 10 years ago, there was a sewing machine from what I think was either the 70's or 80's. I used that to sew my robe and it works better than the sewing machine my mum was using. And it worked like a charm when sewing curtains =D

-I figured out how to make a wire frame without having sharp points sticking out everywhere.
-I learned to read the labels on certain materials thoroughly before using them
-I learned that I really need to learn how to sew
-I learned for the second year in a row that you should wear gloves while handling spray foam
-I learned that I should make more detailed plans for my cosplays, I tend to improvise a lot : \

I learned

- pool noodles can be used as extra arms.
- money can be raised for charity for shaving your head (even if you plan to do it anyway)
- my wife and I can produce better costumes by working together and critiquing rather than individually
- Model Magic cracks as it dries ;_;
- totally agree that anything can be found at Value Village, as long as you have an open mind

Oh, and one more thing. Transparent sheer material that you can see through cannot be seen through when hit by stage lights.

I learned, that if all else fails, just use craft foam.

I learned to learn how to sew so that you can make your next cosplay yourself and you don't have to stress your mom out because she has to do it all.
Oh, and to start the cosplay earlier so you're not rushing to finish it the day before the con.

make sure to get rid of those sharp edges; in the failure of doing so, DO NOT jump around or headbang wearing a mask with sharp edges inside it (from the wire frame)

I've basically been wearing a razor wire death trap on my head!
