I am just bursting at the seams excited to show this off.
One of my dream cosplays is Hotaru's New Year Furisode
. "Dream" because my hands are far too shaky to ever be able to reliably paint a furisode and obi myself, so I've been waiting to find their real-life counterparts. I'm especially wanting to do this cosplay because it combines two passions of mine: cosplay and vintage kimono collecting and the art of dressing.
Well, a few days ago I finally found the real-life counterpart to Hotaru's furisode!
I got this beauty for a deal because a seam needs repairing (quick work, all I need is some silk thread) and a couple small stains I'm not worried about. It's exactly what I interpreted the motif for Hotaru's furisode being, branched white plum blossoms. This is actually far more dazzling than I dreamed, even, those plum blossoms are rising upwards in a rather unusual way, which like the listing description said, gives it such an uplifting feeling.
I'm so excited to receive this beauty and lovingly repair it. I still need a boatload of accessories (red furisode juban [underkimono], green date-eri, pink obijime and obiage, a complementing pair of zori) and the branched plum blossom and crane fukuro obi (another difficult search), but I'm unbelievably happy that such a big item has been found and crossed off!
I also plan to have a neat little accessory, a Silence Glaive Eto-Hamaya
(scroll to bottom of page), as seen in this common image of Hotaru in kimono
. Unfortunately I'm not at all skilled in woodworking for carving a 28" miniature glaive, so I might have to look around for someone to commission. I wish I wasn't so awful with such things. T-T
