Hi, everyone! ^^ Well, this is my first thread on this site, and I'm glad to be here. If I put this thread in the wrong part of the forum, please tell me!

I run a blog called Cross Race Cosplay, which is about people who cosplay as characters of a different skin color.

Me and some friends wanted to run a panel at Katsucon 2013 on this subject, along with the subjects of discrimination and elitism in the cosplay/anime community.

The reason I decided to start a thread was to see if there was any interest in this panel. (If no one is interested, there's no real point in putting the work towards presenting to an empty room, right?) And if you have any suggestions for things to bring up during the panel, let me know!

I would talk to my friend Ashi-Chan. She's apart of Chocolate Covered Cosplay and used to live on the East Coast. She's actually the one who really got me into cosplay. They might have some tips and such on a panel such as this.

I'd definitely be interested in such a panel. My opinion has always been "cosplay whatever makes you happy to cosplay, regardless of age/height/weight/gender/ethnicity", but I'm also aware that my perspective is a privileged one in many ways (white, thin, and female->male crossplay is much more accepted than male->female crossplay) and thus am always interested in hearing what people who don't have my particular types of privilege have to say about it. I'd prefer not to do or say something that's horribly insulting or offensive out of sheer ignorance. :/

Hey guys! This is sort of a thread-bump.
The panelists and I have been gathering up a lot of resources for the panel, and I'll be working on a powerpoint at least a month or two before Katsucon. Wish us luck! <3

I think this is a fantastic idea. This has been such a hot-button issue in cosplay (in the US, anyway) lately, and I'd love to see a panel tackle it. Can I suggest a topic/discussion point? I'd really like to see a civil discussion about skin color alteration (through make-up, tanning, etc.) for cosplay.

I agree with sakakirose. Definitely touch on makeup because there's a difference between tanning and being offensive. But I'm definitely interested in going.

Would SO take an interest in this panel. My cosplay friends seem to be upset with the fact that I don't wanna do black characters because I think it's too predictable ( a black barret wallace. Who'd have thunk it? )

Me and the other panelists are meeting this week to discuss the panel's content and format. We're thinking of having the panel on Saturday of the con, maybe during the afternoon or evening. I want to try to submit the panel application by the end of this month, or before AUSA.
