I keep searching for shoe/ boot tutorials and they're usually just "modify something" and I have two questions...
1. How on earth do you sew to shoe...?
2. Is it really impossible to make one from scratch?
Please post shoe tips here. I kind of wanted a topic where we could just ask random footwear questions.
Story time~ The main problem I came here for is how to get shoes that match the rest of your outfit? Last year, I was this chick
and the shoes look kind of like monstrosities up close. That's because I used the same fabric as the dress, sewed three pieces into a shoe cover, and hot glued two covers onto a pair of high heel shoes. xP It sounds workable in theory, but after one day of wearing them (the picture was taken long after the con) the fabric was coming apart at the seams (it was also Wal-mart satin, first scratch cosplay xP). For that predicted reason, I didn't bother doing the bottom of the heels, which were sadly left dark brown.
(please don't say "you have more problems than the shoes" xD; )
Now, I'm making another costume where the color of the boots will have to match the outfit (here
). I don't know where on earth I'm going to find purple heels, and I could just hot glue more fabric to another pair of shoes like before but I can't imagine it looking well. >_o; I don't know, do other people resort to that...?
I wouldn't know where to find a boot that high that is also cheap enough to sacrifice for cosplay. The last pair was just a lovely fitting high heel that my boyfriend's mom didn't want anymore. xD; That's what kind of bothers me about modifying shoes that aren't from the thrift store... but nine times out of ten, you can't find high boots there.
In general, what do normal people do when they're making cosplay boots/ shoes...?
And ugh, I don't know where to start with the laces. With the lace holes, I mean. Just... I've never made lace holes in my life, where do I begin? o_o
