It's also too white, so when I dye it Monday night, I'll do the stretching. I only need about an inch on each sleeve and the bottom.

Here's hoping the hat I ordered for his costume is big enough. Do you know where Honorarydoctor got the hat originally? I've had a time finding one affordably. The only one I did find is barely large enough for me, let alone my husband with a huge head, long hair, and a wig. The one we ordered is SUPPOSED to be big enough, but you never know when you're ordering it online.

I'm not sure I like that spoonflower pattern for the pants. I'm not blaming you for it as it's not your design, but the stripes look a little big for that version. Maybe I'm just blind. My husband ended up choosing a stripe from JoAnn that's similar though not exact. It has all the colors but in a different order. A quarter the price, though.
It was mainly the humidity that got me in the end, since most of the day I spent was outside (and the fact I had to wait 2 1/2 hours in line to get my online registration verified). That, and the fact I had layers: long sleeve shirt, wool jumper AND the jacket (modified from a labcoat). Just bring some water bottles if you are going to be outside for a while, and try to find cool areas for rest periods. Suffice to say, this costume is better to wear in the later part of the year when everything's a little bit cooler.

The Spoonflower pattern was something I wanted to try out, but I was frankly disappointed that part of the fabric was washed out a little bit when I washed all of the fabric in my washing machine (I even read the washing instructions before I put the fabric in). Not to say that it was ruined (heck, I kind of think the washed out look doesn't look to bad considering the outfit is supposed to be a variation of a cricket uniform) but I was a little disapointed that the quality of the printing wasn't that great for the price they were charging per yard. Not to mention the fact I had to pay an extra $30 shipping since they used FedEx on top of the rush shipping I paid online.

Also, I'm looing for an Amy Pond wig, and I've heard that the New Look Linda wig is supposed to be a favorite among Who cosplayers. I'm ordering mine in Auburn, but I need a second opinion on the right shade of red.

If anyone else has a better opinion on an Amy wig, please let me know!

It seems the material is a little thinner than it should be for the pants too. Honestly, I'd just as soon go with an inaccurate stripe than count on Spoonflower, then. Good to have a different perspective on that because everyone else has only sung their praises... but again, most of those people haven't actually USED them yet, just seen that they exist.

I am doing the hat band through them, and I hope when it comes, it's not terrible. As for the shipping, did they charge extra AFTER you had confirmed? Like, they ran your card again?

They didn't charge me extra, but FedEx did for the shipping charges of an extra $25 when they arrived at my door. I think this was out of Spoonflower's hands, but I was not impressed. As for the fabric, I ordered the pattern on twill since the site reccomended it for makng pants.

I was also going to order the hatband fabric, but expenses were tight after ordering the pants fabric, so I made my own with simple red cotton fabric and some black and white fabric paint. I slipstitched all the fabric at different sections by hand (the thin pieces were a PAIN), then painted the design and then hot glued the hatband onto the hat. It was a tedious process, but I was happy with the results. Hopefully, the Spoonflower fabric will be just as nice.

Yikes! That shouldn't have been out of their hands, though. When you ship something, it should get there if you've paid the full amount. It sounds like they sent it using a different method than they charged for and said the rest would be "paid by recipient". Do not like. I hope this isn't a regular occurrence. Perhaps they accidentally marked "First Overnight" instead of just "Standard Overnight". That's the only explanation I can think of, but still... they'd have had to choose that the recipient was paying in order to get the item shipped. :/

My friends and I had a fun filled weekend running around the American Museum of Natural History and Central Park in New York and The Franklin Institute in Philly dressed in Who gear. We had a Ten, two Elevens, an Amy, a River, and me as Rose. It just hit me that we were gallivanting around in 101°F weather on Saturday... <.<

Also, in other news, I'm expecting another Rose piece in the mail. I'm super excited.

Last Friday, my husband and I decided to try and pull together an 11th Doctor costume for him, possibly to wear to Dragon*Con 2013 (we aren't going this year). since a friend is doing River Song from "The Impossible Astronaut", we went with the "Utah" outfit for his 11.

Last night he tried on the nearly complete costume. Some of the pieces are place holders, like the jeans, which were a pair he already had, but we were both surprised at how fast it all pulled together. The Stetson should be here this week or next, and the wig will be ordered closer to con time... I wish I had photos of it, but since it was just the dry run, and 11:00 at night, we ended up not getting any good ones.

In the mean time, my poor 10 costume consists of a pair of red chucks, a cheap tie that needs to be replaced, and a pile of fabric that I need to dye and paint. Bah. This could take a while.

Hey does anyone know what I could use as the base for Amy's armor in the Girl Who Waited? I've got everything figured out except for the mesh sort of stuff underneath. I want something flexible, cheap, and most of all, not sharp on all the raw edges.

There's a cosplayer in the LJ Doctor Who Cosplay group who has tackled making Amy's armor from TGWW and has given a breakdown of the construction.

Thanks. But she advised against copying her and using gutter guard.

Here's a thread on Prydon Academy about it (http://prydonacademy.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=876). I'm not sure how much it covers, but it looks like it helps a bit. GL!

I spent the weekend doing Ghostbusters events (Dan Aykroyd was in town) and going to meetings for all of the events I volunteer for, so I didn't get a LOT of costuming done, but I did have an hour or so last night which I spent pinning the darts into my Ten coat. It's looking really good though FAR from finished. I think I'm going to end up re-cutting the collar before I'm happy with the shape, but the coat is lovely. I have a month and a half until Dragon*Con and both the Fifth and Tenth Doctors to finish as well as some possible Jelly Baby slippers.

I also need an idea. Those of you who love DW t-shirts, what sort of t-shirt do you think the Fourth Doctor would wear with jammie pants? If I can find one for $20 or less, I'd like to get it.

I just premiered my Rose Tyler (Turn Left/Stolen Earth/Journey's End) cosplay at a small local convention. There weren't a lot of Whovians there, so I didn't get a lot of rec for it, which was a little sad because she's such an amazing character. But the people who did recognize me loved the costume. One even texted a picture of me to her friend who promptly responded back with, "OH MY GOD, IS THAT THE REAL ROSE TYLER?!?!?!?!" It kind of made my day. Unfortunately, Rose is getting put away until December, because that jacket is HOT! I had to take it off for a good portion of the day because I was sweating so bad. It was a hundred degrees outside, and I was wearing a pleather bomber jacket! Luckily, the con I'm going to in December SHOULD be cooler (I say "should" because we in Texas have been known to have 80 degree winters from time to time), and there's a huge number of Whovians who go to that con, and I've got myself a Doctor to go along with me. Really excited to cosplay her again.

Thanks, but it doesn't seem to have any info on that. I swear, every source I find on building the armor seems to skip over the mesh part! I might have to settle for some thick tulle that I have lying around, but it's not ideal. Otakon is next week so I've got to make due with what I've got or what I can find in a store. I want to wear this at Katsucon too so literally any bit of advice will help!

If anyone needs a reference, I have one here. It looks stiff, but still flexible enough to bend. I'm obviously really stuck on this part. And it's the only part of the costume that leaves me clueless!!

Can you use those mesh produce bags that oranges, onions, lemons, etc. usually come in? Spray paint them black?
