My absolute favorite manga is Kitchen Princess. It's not that popular, and it's often (in my opinion) underrated. For those who don't know, it's a 10-volume shoujo series by Natsumi Ando.

The description on the back of volume 1:
Najika is a great cook and she likes to make meals for the people she loves. But something is missing from her life. When she was a child, she met a boy who touched her heart- and now she's determined to find him. The only clue Najika has is a silver spoon that leads her to the prestigious Seika Academy. Attending Seika will be a challenge. Every kid at school has a special talent, and the girls in Najika's class think she doesn't deserve to be there. But Sora and Daichi, two popular brothers who barely speak to each other, recognize Najika's cooking for what it is- magical. Is either boy Najika's mysterious prince?

I know it sounds cheesy, but bear with me. For such a girly plot, it is played out extremely well. The characters aren't static and 1-dimensional. They actually have character developement, and through the series they change and learn new things about themselves. It stands out from other typical shoujo manga, both with the beautiful art and well-told story.

To be honest, this is the only manga that can make me feel so much emotion. XD I always cry at least three or four times when reading this, no matter how many times I'd read it before. It's not your typical shoujo manga, and I hope anyone who reads this decides to give it a glance.~

Shonen: One Piece. It was my first anime and now it's my favorite. Mainly because it literally has it all. Good, solid characters. An amazing plot. Great world building. And even when I lost interest in a lot of other series (ie Bleach and Naruto), I'm still excited every single Wednesday because that means that I can read the latest chapter. It's even better when I go to cons and bookstores and I'm able to buy the volumes.

Shojo: Skip Beat. It's probably the only shojo I really like. I know it's a bad stereotype, but most other shojos are too mushy for me and the heroines don't stand out nearly enough. Kyoko, however, is a completely different story. She's strong willed and engaging. But i think the thing that sold me on her was that instead of being motivated by romantic feelings, she's motivated by revenge against the guy who crushed her heart. It's a really entertaining story.

YnM was like my Twilight in terms of how obsessed i was with it in highschool mentality. It is a 100 times better thought. I still got back in read it once in awhile and it's still just as good.

I still totally read mine quite often too. They are a bit worn, so you can see I love them. That, Godchild, and Meru Puri get read over and over again.
