EGA help
I've always love EGA, but I suck with fashion and matching outfits so I really need some help. I absolutely love this outfit here:
http://fanchaos.com/fanplusfriend/c1/CT00069_15.jpg But I don't know if it's too red to be EGA (considering the word gothic is in the name). And I'm not sure if I should stick with the shorts they have on the pic or this skirt: http://fanchaos.com/fanplusfriend/c1/SP00071_02.jpg Thank you so much for your help! |

To wear EGA, you have to be wearing the brand:Moi-même-Moitié. Yes it's silly, but technically EGA is Elegant Gothic Aristocrat which was coined by the brand so you'd be looking to wear Aristocratic Lolita style, not EGA.
Aristocratic is more of a grown up mature lolita. Longer skirts, more subtle makeup, less cutesy more gothic, corsets, high waisted skirts, etc... The shorts would be more Ouji/Boystyle, so it wouldn't go with the Aristocratic style since that is what you are going for. The bright red makes it look more cosplayish to me, but if you like it go for it Although the style of the jacket is nice. With lolita, if you want to go for a specific type then you have to do a lot of research about what is and is not a part of that ensemble. But the great thing is that you can do what you want with it if you decide to mix things together and create your own style if you want. I'm a huge lolita admirer and am more aristocratic loli, but I don't know everything about it, but this is what I do know as far as aristocratic loli goes. I hope that makes sense x__x

Aristocratic does not have to solely be black. The biggest qualm that I have with that color red is that it's too bright. It's more of a personal quirk, but I feel like it should be darker.
That said, the skirt is very short. The shape of it would correspond more with a Punk Lolita rather than Gothic Aristocrat. To be quite frank, I don't like either one, but I would stick with the pants/shorts rather than the skirt. You'd look a damn sight more tailored with the shorts rather than with the skirt. Also, Aristocrat is not Lolita. Last edited by antisocialist : 04-19-2012 at 03:44 PM. |

So, OP - what you need to do is pretty much give up the idea of short anything with Aristocrat. The parameters for Aristocrat is equally as strict as Lolita proper. Everything is long and mature. You don't show a lot of skin in Aristocrat. While you can make a lot of this stuff look good, it won't be aristocrat. Long pants or long skirts would be more sufficient rather than short stuff. |

I see. Too bad they don't have a dark/blood red color. Here's the other color they have.
http://fanchaos.com/fanplusfriend/c1/CT00069_10.jpg Though, a long skirt would look good with it, I think. What is the minimum amount of skin you should show? Besides the hands and face of course. |

What you are going for is very Western in look. It looks very similar to a western ideal of what Japanese alternative-style fashion is. While it could potentially look nice, it is still not aristocrat. You'll need to go for knee length items - which is the shortest acceptable for aristocrat with boots that cover or even dark tights that don't contain cute designs. Keep in mind that Aristocrat is generally a redux of eras gone by. If it wasn't appropriate in Victorian London, it probably isn't appropriate for aristocrat. Aristocrat = mature. Lolita =/= cute or not as mature. That skirt doesn't scream aristocratic maturity to me at all. It does, however, scream punk. |

Sorry. I am trying. I'm still fairly new to it. How about this instead with fairly tall black boots?
http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/apparel/app...Y=NEOAPP-22782 And maybe a black blouse (still looking) or blazer type thing? |

Is there a reason you're attached to the Aristocrat label? The things your picking out are really nice, and fit under the gothic/punk lolita umbrella.

As much as I love the aesthetic of what you are picking, none of these things are aristocrat. They are, however, Punk Lolita, which is something else that looks very nice and is difficult to get right.
Lolita is like the cute little princess who loves tea and beautiful things. She grows up into the aristocrat - no longer the princess, but a graceful, beautiful lady. Aristocrat is stuff like this - http://www.fanplusfriend.com/servlet...--fdsh-/Detail http://www.fanplusfriend.com/servlet...Ruffles/Detail http://www.fanplusfriend.com/servlet...hirring/Detail |

Hello! I almost forgot about this topic (This is amaya_JDB. I made a new account.)
I wanted to do EGA because I never was into "cute" and wanted to do something new. I've been told people in the past I can't do loli, even punk loli, because I'm too tall for it (5' 7") and I'm pretty built (like to work out so I have a lot of muscle), and it's best if I stick to EGA because the long skirt and long sleeves will hide my bulkiness. I'm very much into gothic punk and VK, so maybe that's why the outfits I picked out spoke to me. |

Firstly, people are idiots, and you should not listen to them. I've seen LOADS of people, much taller than you, pull off Aristocrat beautifully. If you were to adhere to someone else's Lolita Aesthetic, there would be no black, tattooed, plus-sized, Muslim, etc. Lolitas. And, AFAIK, all of these groups are represented in Loli.
If you're concerned about appearing too bulky, try corsetry. Corsets can work very well in Aristocrat. |
