My first cosplay cost about $110, since at the time I had hair that looked identical to the character and didn't want to spend money on a wig..... ._.; Looking back, that seems so cheap ;A; (my newest cosplay is going to total in at about $300 because of weaponry, shoes..... XD).

My first cosplay was probably around $50. It was mostly normal clothes with a few things scraped together. I did do it as a testing the waters as cosplay wasn't that well known back then and I wasn't sure if it was a thing.
If I were starting out now, $160 would probably be ok to me but given its more known now, I would probably have started with a more detailed costume. These days, I'm happy when my costume costs as little as $160.

1500 a piece for my costume and the same for my boyfriends.. Sackboy mascots, needless to say we didn't make anything huge for another yearand we took those costumes to four outings during the year. We probably waisted a lot of money experimenting but also we added things here and there over time like a giant sobero. Just check them out and you'll probably say yeah you could totally see how we might have blew some money.

My first cosplay took around $80-$90... so not TOO bad but still took a bit of moolah from my savings account lol.

$15. I had everything but a pleated skirt, and bought the cheapest fabric I could find in the right colour (lesson learned). Generic schoolgirl whoo? That cosplay was SO bad.
My first 'from scratch' cosplay (Kenshin) ran about $60-80.

I just ordered my first cosplay and it was $142.88. That includes a dress and a wig. It all depends on what you are wearing, the material, and who you are buying from (even if you are making it). The components of a cosplay can include or not include a lot of things, so again, this is a dependence on many factors.

I used Goodwill and Ebay for my first cosplay as Rock Lee. I spent about $60.00.

About AUD$300 (at todays exchange rates, US$312) - however I proberly could have gotten away at about AUD$130). I'm a perfectionist and if I don't have everything I need it isn't good enough.

My first cosplay was about $300. I'll admit though, I wasn't exactly aiming for it to be cheap. I paid $56 for fabric even though I found fabric that would have worked for literally half the cost ($28), just because the color on the more expensive fabric was slightly better. I also wound up paying $50 for boots, and I spent $75 total on two wigs because the first one I bought was too short and I wouldn't stand to let myself use it. >.<
I don't think there's anything wrong with spending $300 on a first cosplay, let alone $160. If you're happy with the end result and believe that the price was worth it, then it was, regardless of the actual number. If the price tag was high, then so be it. Cosplay can be an expensive hobby, but the important part isn't the price. It's about enjoying yourself. (Cliche, I know, but it's true! c: )

My first cosplay was Sven from Black Cat. I'm guessing $50? The suit and shoes came from a thrift store and the case was about $25, but super accurate*! Oh, and no wig... It was a last minute thing, and for laughs I ended up using Easter grass for a portion of the con, haha, I'd like to wear it again but I can't afford a wig right now.
*It didn't actually have machine guns, however.

Either $255 (that's way more than I thought it was
) or $385 if you count all the unusable things I bought.Purchased partial used cosplay from Marketplace for $55. It was too small and low quality. Bought fabric to remake it for $65. (Made my costume I have now.) Pants from some store for $15. They were on clearance so that was lucky. First wig $45. It was too small. (I already styled it so couldn't return it.) Second wig $30 (also too small). I had to ship it back and never got refunded. Third wig $60. This was an Arda wig and it's the one I'm using now. Boots $100. Would have been $10 cheaper if I didn't need them in a hurry. Prop $15. Laminated card weapons. Easier than I thought they'd be. I only wanted to spend about $160. You did a lot better than I did. My first, no. Actually my first 2 were about that same. very reasonable. It wasn't until I started buying wigs and doing harder cosplays that the price went over 100$.
Aska was the most...I think I spent 150$. |

My first cosplay was Stocking from Panty and Stocking with Garterbelt, which cost me about 100 dollars in all. I had an easy time with that one because the shoes were lent to me, the stockings were found for about two dollars. It wasn't the greatest cosplay I've ever done but I'm proud of the money I saved at it. Around 100-200 is pretty average in my opinion.
However, I've had costumes like Naked Snake which cost me upwards of 400 dollars and STILL aren't completed. |

My first cosplay was Hermione Granger's outfit from the third movie with the pink hoddie. I think it was less than $20 USD. On avrage I spend around $50 USD for a whole cosplay.
