I bought a pair of faux leather leggings for my TRON: Legacy cosplay. I tried them on and asked my mom to take a picture so I could see what they looked like.

Me: *comes out of the bathroom*

Me: What?
Mom: Wow! You actually look like you have hips and a butt!

"So is that for your Sasuke dress up?"
"Mom, it's for Rainbow Dash."

Both of my parents are pretty OK with cosplaying, but they worry about the money I spend.

Conversation between me and my mom

mom: so what are you dressed as?
me: I'm doing a steampunk costume, since most of the things I'm selling at my artist alley booth is steampunked themed.
mom: you should dress like that more often, you look pretty.

Mostly it's complements on what I'm working on. They don't really ask about the character or the show, though I'm planning on doing a costume from one of my dad and I's favorite syfy shows, so maybe he'll get more interested. XD

Me: ... I'm not even gonna ask where you got that idea.

Me: Mom, I wanna cosplay GLaDOS.
Mom: Really?! I'll drive to the Mill (what we call the theatre she works at) and get a lab coat, high heels, and tights for you! What do you want to make the personality cores out of? Oh, and I'll get some white fabric and some paint so you can make patches! I'll sew them on for you, don't worry.
Me: ... So I explain cosplay to you and you come up with an entire Human GLaDOS design?
Mom: Yes. Now, what kind of glasses should I get you... Oh, and where can I buy a white wig?

Dad: Can I wear your green wig?
Me: No, because if you ruin it you are paying $44 for ruining it plus it's not green it's teal.
Dad: I want to wear your teal wig with the little black hat.
Me: No, the black hat does not go on Neptune's wig. It goes with Ciel's.
Dad: But I want to wear it with Neptune's wig though.
Me: No.
Dad: oh come on....
Me: No, and I hope you know that this conversation is going on the cosplay forums because it's amusing.

Then he left my room.

Dressed in my Mercenary outfit (green flak jacket, tac vest, guns, holsters, even fake 'nades, the whole nine yards) and wore it around the house so I could get used to it. These are each memorable quotes from various family members when I wore it to the annual barbeque.
Dad: "I admire your creativity, but flaunt it at Anime Expo or somewhere similar... I don't want your gear ending up all over the house again..."
Mom: "Very... realistic... except for the plastic gun. Use one of your airsofts if you want it to look cooler."
Aunt: "Is that... is that a cigarette? Oh, it's fake, I see..."
Uncle: "Yeah, I used to be a mercenary once... then I took an arrow to the knee and got married.
Grandma: "Roddy, you look very official... please don't scare the neighbors. They might get heart attacks."
Grandpa: "Afghanistan's a couple thousand miles away... I'd lend you the car, butI had to disable its submarine mode."
Big Sis: "Aww, little Roddy's playing dress-up! How cute!"
Big Sis's Boyfriend: "Sammy, don't make funna your bro like that. Roddy, I think it looks awesome! But... why are you wearing it around the house?"

My dad is the one that got me into anime, so he doesn't have any qualms about it, and my mom thinks it's cool when I make my own cosplays and she likes to take pictures.

Before I left the hotel for Anime Iowa, my mom was taking pictures of me as Saya Otonashi while covered in fake blood and doing my best to look demonic and my step-dad's mom took a look at me.

Doris: Awww, you look sooo cuuuute!!
Me: Well.. thanks, but, uh, I'm not supposed to be cute...

Lol I had almost the same experience with my mom. xD Just not the last part. It was just shocking to me particularly because my parents are extremely conservative and stereotypically Asian... ><

(Walks into room in cosplay first time)
Mom: That wig! It looks...
Me: I know what you're going to say, okay?
Mom: Amazing! It almost looks like real hair!
Me: ...Wha?
(A month later)
Mom: Hey, can I borrow your orange wig?
Me: ...Wha?
Mom: Your orange wig. I want to wear it. It'd look really cool.
Me: ...Wha?
Mom: Or maybe I could wear it for Halloween next week and greet the kids with it on!
Me: ... But... You hate Halloween, and you've never opened the door for kids because you think it's annoying. WHERE IS MY MOTHER WHAT HAVE YOU DONE WITH HER.

Lo and behold it was worn. Though she didn't greet kids with it. >.> I honestly thought something was wrong with her.

I was in my living room coming my Wilhelm from Crimson-Shell wig since it got really tangled after my friend wore it to a con. I had a little pile next to me of the knots I'd pulled out, and since it's a white Blonde wig, it's about the same color as my dog's fur. My dad came home while I was out of the room, and this happened.

Dad: How is there so much hair on the couch!?
Me: *runs in* Oh sorry I was-
Dad: Sunny (the dog) how do you shed this much?
Me: Oh! I thought you were talking to me since I was out here coming my Wilhelm wig.
Dad: No I meant Sunny... *brushes hair off couch to throw it away, and takes a good look at it* OH GOD THIS IS WILHELM! Your wig sheds more than the dog does! Here, this is yours *drops in my hands.*
Me:...Gee thanks Dad.
