Artemis Scythe Prop :)

This is the head of the Artemus Scythe from Vampire Knight that i have done so far using this one reference picture

So far this is what i got for the head. Its my first ever prop and im just looking for the eyes of the experienced for advice as i finish it up!

HOLY SHIZZ!!!! O.O That is way too good so far....Remember to make it look like its got the bone look to it and how it has those indented areas.

Well what are you using? If all that stuff on it is a resin or plaster or whatever, you may be screwed and have to paint it to look like that. BUt if it's something you can remove or sand down I suggest sanding the circular areas in it and other things.

All that is just paint at the moment to strengthen it which didn't work so well. The circular areas were a pain in the ass haha but since i found my sand paper today it might work better! What else do you suggest? hehe FEED ME YOUR INFORMATION!

Well what is the thing made of? that's more gonna be the problem. It will be easy to just use sand paper if its insulation foam, but NOT wood. In case it is wood use things like a dremmel and other things that sand with power and strength but are ment to do detail work. an electric hand sander should be ok with the bottom of the bladed area. See on the ref how it has a thicker top area and the bottom bevels a bit? An electric hand sander would do that on wood. But for foam only use a normal hand sander that you do everything yourself and to make the "craters" gust sane more in the center and less on the outer rims.

I do notice however you have all the details on the first pic of your prop..did you not do this on both sides? You should have..then just prime and paint..

Can't give any suggestions since I'm still a noob at making props, but that's amazing. It's honestly one of the best Artemis scythes I've seen so far and trust me, I've seen a lot with all the Yuukis that I took pictures with at cons xD

Wow. Just by looking at your pic i know what you mean and that means quite a lot hahaa

AND Its made from polystyrene stuff. Do you reckon its worth adding a back to it? I'm thinking of pulling off all the paint. :/

Ah, you are using the "white styrofoam" stuff then huh? I didn't know the work off hand that YOU used so I Googled it lol
Did you make it out of the big thick sheets of it and carve it down to the shape you needed?
If that is what you did you can still do stuff to it. Get that paint off and do the same theing as the detailed side on the other side. After that, Use something like paper mache other it as that stuff can kinda break easier then anything else really. Then use like a plaster like Gesso or something over the mache, then use spray paint and do thin coats at a time and you want maybe 3-5 coats.

Also, remember the detail on the handle. You can achieve this by using sculpy or wonderflex or whatever you want to stick to it and do halves, Like do the detail on the handle where you can take it off and glue it back on to stay in place.

Woah yeah sorry hahaha it never had a label or anything on it. Guessing by the times you are posting that you're from the US and i think we have a different name for it in the UK. Erm, the paint i have on it now has actually strengthened it up a lot.Yeah i did buy a massive sheet then sculpted it out. The sheet was like 2.2m by 1.3m so i have LOADS spare. I think i will keep on with what i had planned in my brain and upload it when im finished. If it fails i will do what you said. I just feel like if i change everything now im going to ruin it.

This being your first prop is VERY good. Pffft, my first prop was terrible haha. I really like how you made it so 3rd dimentional.

WEll If you feel you might ruin it then that's up to you not to detail the other side. Remember, there are always worse one. I mean yes their ARE better ones, But some people just DO NOT put real time into it because they are lazy. Plus, when someone takes a pic of you, you DO have a detailed side..That would be the side to use for pictures. Make that side aim toward the camera in all pictures and NO ONE will notice..
