I was aware that they were located several other areas, but being the 1st time in that particular area (Athens) I was a bit skeptical =P

I staffed so I would get a free badge, which it is only required 4 hours for your badge to be free. So there were other ways to avoid paying that entry amount.

$20 really isn't a lot for a con, I didn't mean to come off so cheap, but what I meant was that I buy my AWA tickets early for $25 and that's 3 days (plus one event on Thursday) so for a 1 day, no real events that I'm that interested in... $20 was pushing it. Then again, I'm also just now financially recovering from the Hell that was 2011 so perhaps I did overreact at the price a bit =P

Panels were organized but had a malfunction with the projector, which made a lot of people with panels mad since their power-point was either useless or had to be shown from the screen of the laptop.

OOH! that makes a LOT more sense. I wasn't told the whole story, I just heard a lot of complaining with very little good to say about the con but looking back, all of the complaints came from panelists. So, they're a biased vote LOL

By the way, I've seen some of your work via Facebook - beautiful stuff! If I ever make a cosplay worthy of attention, I'll definitely be asking you for a photoshoot ^_^


As for smaller cons, I also check out http://atlanime.ning.com/ It lists all sorts of genre cons (some just fantasy, horror or comic books) and they have their own group as well. I've never gone, but have always meant to XD But, I have gone to a few cons they've advertised, so the website does come in handy ^_^

I've thought about looking back myself, but 80 pages is a bit intimidating so I'll take the lazy way out - Has this thread started a Facebook group? It might make it easier to set up meet ups (If people post that they're going to a smaller local con/event, an impromptu meetup could be made - rides to said events could be offered etc)

we really need to plan some meetups during the winter. Because as far as I know after AWA there is a huge gap and then the next one in the state is Momocon..>;T

Don't forget Nerdacon in November (16th evening & 17th) and there's usually a winter Atlanta Anime Day.

I do enjoy the Cosplayers on Ice a whole lot. Even though no one ever wants to skate with me. I end up doing it throughout the year with my friends at the local ice rink anyway so I dunno...not really a huge deal. Just cool to see other people doing and not get the "you know it's not Halloween right?" sort of comments ._.

Actually I'm also a Georgia cosplayer, but I live around the Kennesaw area about 28 minutes away from the cons, and I'm actually just about 14 years old attending the cons, so I'm actually looking for cosplay friends, since all my friends bailed out on me for the convention, and I would love to be in a cosplay group!
