My Insanity Journey

So yeah, I'll go ahead and do this. So I turned 28 back in June, and I was thinking to myself "well shit, I'm in worse shape now than I was after my first knee surgery at 17, and honestly after every following surgery, can't take this"

Get Insanity

Start this way on the 19th of June

Four weeks later I'm kinda rocking it and enjoying my higher energy levels and strength

Cue the start of Month 2, some things fall apart and I took a bit to get back on the train.

Three days ago, actually four now

I'll post again when I start for the second time with final day results.

EDIT: Round 1 side:

NEW PIC from September 27, 2012 to January 22, 2014

Wow great results so far!
I did the insanity fit test today for the first time. I plan to add insanity to my gym routine (starting today). But you had knee surgery in the past, don't you have any problems now? Because I read that everyone with some knee instability or other joint problems experiences too much discomfort with these exercises and has to quit!?

That is just three months' worth? Man, I gotta get on that band wagon!
Did you follow the Insanity nutrition plan or did you just eat healthy? What calorie totals do/did you strive for?

Vicky, I've had three knee surgeries on my right knee for a torn meniscus (every time it was the same injury). I had given up on the idea of being perfectly OK ages ago since my first knee surgery was 17. What's a bit of pain when I acknowledge that every pound I lose is equal to four pounds off of my knees? I'm stronger, faster, and more stable than I was before. I can balance better too. Is it risky? Dunno, but I'm handling it pretty well.

EDIT: After that first surgery I was diagnosed with "congenital collagen hyperlaxity" which to my understanding basically means I was born with superloose joints and am highly likely to end up arthritic, glucosamine and chondroitin helped for a while. I'm what people call "double jointed."

I WILL however note that I got an exercise mat, it's a half inch think and I got it at Dick's, it's really cut down on any pain I was feeling from the workouts.

EDIT: this is the mat http://www.dickssportinggoods.com/pr...uctId=10813065

Slapthefatcat, I didn't follow the nutrition plan at all really, I just started cutting down on my ridiculous overeating by making food and then putting half of it away since I'm so used to preparing a certain amount. I have lots of leftovers.

I don't count calories either, but the plan will have you shoot for 5x 300 calorie meals/day, adjusted depending on your caloric need.

So round 1 is complete today, and I admit my results are less than what they COULD have been, but since I started off not being able to do any push-ups (you'll be doing a lot in Insanity) I'm pretty happy with the results and will start anew sometime next week, recovery week sounds good right about now.

I preface this by saying I can't take pictures from the same angle worth a damn.

Front:

Side:

Ideally I'd have back as well, and it would all be full body... but whatever.

My calves are freaking awesome now, and my thighs have shrunk down a fair amount.

LET THE INSANITY CONTINUE

I follow the meal plan for insanity about 80% of the time. like he said its based on your calorie needs and the food isnt bad at all. its just hard to not over eat

My problem is my late night meals. I wake up late and go to bed late and so my eating schedule is later than most people's. So, while everyone is eating dessert, I'm eating dinner.

So uh, quick update.

I slept five hours last night and drove four today going to and from a parade I was costuming in (Jedi). I'll be doing the Insanity Fit Test as the start of ROUND TWO in a couple of hours or so to help me sleep like a rock tonight because Jury Duty starts tomorrow.

WOOO!

Respect buddy. I'm on the same journey XD. I just started P90X and am enjoying it. It help me vent from a crazy day at work XD. I've lost 3 inches and although cutting meals is a bit hard. It's well worth it. What makes it really hard is all the BBQ my friends keep hosting and I'm stuck eating nothing lol. Keep up the work buddy ;D

I think I'm going to start Insanity next week. In the past I've done Max Interval/Plyo/Conditioning on days when I wanted to spice up my workout, and I found them pretty fun. I'm just gonna skip the first month (I don't find it challenging enough) and go straight to the second, but still aim for 60 days. OR maybe I'll go for Asylum, that one looks super fun! Any tips, Drazhar?

In all honesty? Asylum kind of scares me a bit, but Asylum 2 is coming out soon enough, so it might be just what you need.

My right knee was crackling a little bit during my cooldown lunges last night, kinda unnerving, but I'm used to hearing those sounds now anyway.

I would say if you don't find the first month's stuff challenging enough to go ahead and get Asylum, the rope ladder things mess a lot of people up, and it's an even faster program!

Best of luck and share your results!
