Tips for keeping a heavy wig on your head?
Hey there! So, I'm pretty inexperienced when it comes to wigs, so I feel a little clueless sometimes when it comes to all of the tricks.
Anyway, does anyone have any helpful tricks, tips, or advice when it comes to wearing semi-heavy wigs? I have one for an upcoming cosplay with two rather heavy high pigtails (for Juliet Starling from Lollipop Chainsaw), and I seem to have a pretty difficult time making sure it stays on my head. So, anything you guys can tell me to help me out? ![]()

Are you using bobbie pins or proper hair pins? Hair pins are about twice the size of bobbie pins and make a huge difference. (I used to use a million bobbie pins and my wigs still wouldn't hold, but 4 hair pins make my wigs secure all day long.) Also, don't forget to make your hair as flat as possible and wear a wig cap.

Hairpins. Loads and loads and loads of hairpins.
![]() Pin them around the edges of the wig and in the main body of the wig itself, through your wig net and into your hair. If the pigtails are giving trouble, stick a few pins in at the base of each pigtail (again going through the wig net and anchoring it to your hair). Also, test by shaking your head around and doing some poses, and avoid the movements/positions that make the wig come loose. If it helps as a gauge, I used around 12 hairpins to secure a fairly light wig on my head for stage combat (initially used 4 and it flew off with all of them when I made a particularly violent movement) Two at the front, two behind, two over the ears, two behind the ears, the rest stuck randomly all over. I had to get help putting them in and taking them out. |

They sell the clips used to keep extentions on your head all by their clippy self! I sew those to the insides of wigs and they don't come loose unless you unsnap them. Maybe I'm a derp, but I've only had mild success with bobby/hair pins.

Aha! Well, that's probably my problem. The only wigs I've ever worn have never needed hair pins or clips to stay on.
So, can I just get these hair pins and/or clippies just at a store? Say, Wal-mart or something? I'm assuming so, but I just want to check.

I know everyone's saying pins and I also say pins, but I like to French braid my bangs and the hair close to the hairline back so that it not only stays under the wig but you have something to anchor the wig to. It works very well for me, and sometimes I want to grow my hair so that I can do that to the hair in the back at the bottom as well.

I always got my hair clippies at Sally's, though I wouldn't be suprised to find them at Target (probably not walmart...).

I get mine at Sally's as well. They're called Snap Clips and come in several different colors (I get the neutral colored one). I used just one to hold a wig that was the weight of two 40" wigs on my head (one of the wigs was folded up on top to create a bump and a high ponytail) and it did just fine. I would suggest doing several though, one on the front, one on each side, and any more that you need.
