Okay, so, I'm going to be Russia at a con in a bit less than two weeks. My mom's gotten one of her friends to help make my coat for me. The problem is, I saw it today and she's dyed the fabric a dark reddish brown, not the light beige I need. I keep on trying to explain that it's not the right colour to my mom, but she keeps on going on and on about how "no one will notice, it's not like everyone's super accurate at that con." I love Russia, and I don't want my cosplay of him to be SO inaccurate that my coat isn't vaguely the right colour ; ~ ; They're going to lighten it, but there's NO way any amount of lightening is going to get that coat light beige. What do I do?

At this point, you thank the people who are helping you with the coat for free and you wear it when it's done. After the con, you can see if they have the spare time and inclination to help you make a replacement on less of a tight schedule.

Well, As mentioned, You thank them for not charging you first off..
Then you tell yourself, "I want a cosplay part made so I should seek a commission from another cosplayer rather then my moms friend who probably doesn't know that much about it." then you get another one later when you have money..

Oh, also..This is NOT a serious problem. No one is going to say ANYTHING to you about the color of your coat..Now if it was BLUE then yes people may wonder what the hell you're doing.

Do not complain to the lady helping you with the coat or your mom. At this point the damage is done and their hard work shouldn't go unappreciated.

For the next con, you can work more closely with them to get the costume the way you want it...ask them to help YOU to make it. Learn to sew, pick fabric, and the dying process so that in the future you don't have to rely on anyone or their limited experience with cosplay.

I have found a solution. My plan wasn't to complain to her at all, and since she's only making the base coat for me, which would take her about two hours to do without dying the fabric (she's really just giving me a coat with a collar and sleeves attached since I don't know how to do that), she's agreed to re-make the coat once I buy some symphony broad cloth :3 After I explained that I needed a more military look, she was like "yep. Definitely don't want that coat anyway." Since the fabric I'm buying is $2 a yard and I have a 50% off coupon, I won't have much trouble getting my mom to take me to buy it.

Plus, I do trust her, just not her vision when looking at an iPhone xD She's not just some person my mom's friends with, she's the head of the theater department at a local college and the head of the costuming department at a local theatre, ad the person who just gave me a sewing machine because she wants me to learn how to sew xD She's totally fine with redoing the base coat, since I'm still getting to learn how to properly sew on trim and patches :3
