Sub-Forums
The Props forum is our most viewed/active construction-related forum on the website. Because of this, we are going to be making some sub-forums for the Props section this week.
Please post any suggestions in this thread. |

I suggest breaking them into different categories. Things like:
- weapon props (this could go further into things like swords, staves, shields, guns, etc) - non-weapon props (pokeballs, Zelda rupees, etc; stuff that are props but aren't weapons) - plushies or fabric-based props (this would be a lot of the sewing based questions. pointing - people to patterns, tutorials, etc) - armor (anything armor-related; pep files, fiberglass questions, etc) - helmets/headgear (hats, crowns, tiaras, animal ears, etc) - shoes/boots/bootcovers (sandals, etc) - gloves - wings/mounted accessories (things that need mounts or harnesses) - costume accessories (things like bracelets, watches, necklaces; stuff worn but not sewn) There might already be threads in the Tutorials forum that cover these, but I think that this forum is more about specific questions, so having the questions be categorized too will help people know where to post their questions to get the most immediate and relative answers. |

Wow..Everything rj said..
EXCEPT maybe gloves should be in the general sewing forum..Or under accessories..But still Also, along with weapons going into further forums, Maybe if you do like a weapons sub, then in THAT have the different subs like specific ones (swords, shields etc.) Kinda like how the wig forum is. Theres the wig forum, then when you click on you have that top area with another sub forum. That may work better if you can do it. I know that will take a crap ton of coding but it's only a suggestion..

I feel like that would be too many subforums. I would do it this way:
Armor Weapons Props Accessories Materials

I agree, that first list seems like a lot. I wouldn't take the time to sort through it.
How about something like- armor weapons electronics accessories I have a problem/troubleshooting |

Or maybe just:
Weapons Armor Other Having to go to a whole bunch of forums to look for new questions to answer is a bit of a pain. |

I think the categories are right on, but naming them in order to get people headed to the right place is the real key. Perhaps the following or some variation of extremely descriptive labeling:
full body wearables (armor, harnessed pieces) carried items (weapons, shields, staves, wands, prop animals, whatever) small wearables (shoes, gloves, jewelry, head pieces) electronics troubleshooting ("I've already started and it isn't working...")

At the very least, I'd suggest dividing soft props (fabric, etc.) and hard props (plastic, metal, etc.) since those are definitely two very different breeds of props.

as much as we like to "just ask" about things like materials(cost, durability,"is it good for")
i think maybe we should push to have a "notes on __" type thread stiky like the tutorial lists threads, but geard more tward, what is x material, how does it come(form, size etc), how durable is it, what is it good for making, link to similar products and then keep that thread here in armor/props for use as quick view also having a thread/link here pointing to the tutorials lists might be worth it too as im sure some people go straight here instead of checking the lists for similar projects edit; wow i missed the thread date, sorry bout that, but i still think its a valid idea and made in the proper place, even if it is old Last edited by Dictamnus Albus : 05-30-2013 at 12:07 AM. |
