I'm really pissed that I don't make enough to fully take advantage of my 20% off discount. I've been there for about a month but seriously... so many things I want/need to buy and still can't afford. Especially with Halloween coming soon and all the decorations being out.

I seriously just want to buy everything.

Well, if you read the first post you'd see the OP is saying they do NOT get the discount..But usually at stores you are allowed to use coupons no matter what..

Actually, it sounds to me like they get the employee discount, but the take-home pay isn't enough to cover all the things the OP wants:

I totally tried to get a job at a FabricLand one summer cause I wanted the employee discount. =P

Being Canadian, I kinda love Joann's when I get to go shopping in the States. Certain things seem a lot cheaper than we have available here. I bought a pretty nice pair of shears for less than $30 when I was unable to find anything less than $50 here. They're not high tech or anything, but nice, you know? Nicer than I would've found in Canada for that price. The craft jewelry section is fun, and some other stuff.

I'd hazard a guess that it's either or and they don't stack. Employer probably wouldn't like that. But then, OP could always get 50% off coupons and go to another store she doesn't work at. lol

Depending on the coupon, we are allowed to use it. But when it's the bigger things, like the 50% off ones, we aren't allowed.

But seriously. All the Halloween, Fall and Christmas fabric is just coming in and I have so many costume/decorating ideas I want to do and can't afford. When you get hired, you get hired at minimum wage and it only goes up 10 cents after a year. =/

Plus we get paid bi-weekly. xD It just sucks because my paycheck only covered my car insurance, gas, and a couple other bills. So all my money is going towards really getting there and I have yet to be able to use my discount. GAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH.

Wow I guess some Joann's are different. I have worked at Joann fabrics for about two years now. I love it! We're allowed to use any coupons we want though, even the 50% and 60% and we can use them with our discount too. Though if you use a bunch of coupons then the discount does really nothing. >.> You should save up and wait for the big discount week where we get 30% off our total purchase. So nice.

But yeah we got a saying at our Joanns, "Extra money, what's that? We're Joann employees. We don't earn enough to have Extra money." XD

A lot of the price difference is because Canada has more/higher import fees, taxes, duties, etc on the goods than the states do, and that's reflected in the retail price. That having been said, I was surprised last time I was in a Joannes - I was expecting all the fabric to be substantially cheaper than at Fabricland, and while a lot of it was, there was quite a bit which was at the same regular prices that we charge, and some which was actually more expensive.

meh even wit a recent coupon commotion things still come out fairly expensive. I say try walmart ;p

The WalMart here has a veeeeeeeeeeeeery limited fabric section, and is actually more expensive than JoAnn's for a lot of the cheaper fabrics. Ours has like a tiny half isle with fabric.

The decoration prices aren't bad though. XD
